Dave Boswell Burns (1909-1990) b. March 28, 1909 9 Mill Road, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, United Kingdom; d. August 23, 1990 Plymouth Marshall county Indiana buried Culver Masonic Cemetery Culver, Marshall County, Indiana son of James Easton (Edward) Burns and Agnes Maxell Thomas.

    His parents married just shortly befor his birth on February 5, 1909 Muirkirk, Ayrshire, Scotland, United Kingdom

    His father came to America before them leaving on November 20, 1909 from Glasgow, Scotland aboard the SS Pretorian landing in the port of Boston,Massachusetts on Decemeber 1, 1909 his final destitation was Pawtucket, Rhode Island and then to 22 Bal St. Saylesville Rhode Island where his brother William Millar Burns resided and by July 1912 he had made his way to Chicago, Cook cook, Illinois

    David is found on the 1911 Scotland census with his gtandparents Michael Thomas and Janet "Jenny" Walker Maxwell and his mother Agnes is found in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland, in the household of Rev, I L Fyfe as a servant.

    David and his mother Agnes who was sevral months pregnant boarded the SS Hesperian at Glasgow, Scotland on Jul 20, 1912 it was noted the nearst relative in Scotland was Agnes' father residing at Michael Thomas Bridge St. Muirkirk, Scotland. David and Asgnes first port of entry was at Port Quebec, Quebec, Canada on July 29 1912 and they sailed on to the Port Huron, Michigan arriving July 31, 1912 - their final destitation was to James c/o Mrs. Ashcroft 6453 St. Lawrence Ave Chicago, Ill. and on January 30, 1913 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois David's brother Michael Thomas Burns Chicago, Cook, Illinois

    By James' obituary the Burns family arrived in Culver in 1915.

    David attended the local elementary and high school until age of 16 whne he went to work as a bricklayer.

1944 - Aug 2 - Long & Burns Open Cement Block Factory
    A new business swung into actual production Monday when A B Long and Dave Burns opened a cement block factory which they had purchased of M. R. Cline.

    The business, which is known as the Long & Burns Cement Black Factory is located on East Jefferson streert and has a capacity of around 500 to 800 blocks a day, all quaranteed.

    The latest type of block making machine is being use.

1968 - Oct 11 - "Cary" Claude Harter Cummins Supervisor of maintenance at the new Culver Community High School which began operation and he had also been named as clerk-of-the-works (building supervisor) for the construction of the high school. As a tribute his grave marker is made from the same brick as the facing of the high school and was constructed by David B. Burns.
