Lloyd Charles Wampler 83, Indianapolis passed away August 9, 2004.

Mr. Wampler was born November 4, 1920 in Spencer, Indiana the son of Charles and Vivian (Hawkins) Wampler.

Mr. Wampler was a Navy Veteran of WWII.

He graduated from Indiana University in 1942 and IU School of Law in 1947. He was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1947. His work career included: Business Law instructor at the University of Kansas 1947-49; Deputy Attorney General of Indiana 1949-50; Member of the legal committee of the Interstate Oil Compact Commission 1950; partner in Wampler, Travis & Fortin in Plymouth 1953-83; claim counsel for American Family Insurance Group Indianapolis, 1983-88; member of the Indiana Rehab Services Board 1978-86; Democratic nominee for judge of the Indiana Supreme Court 1956; he retired in 1988.

His memberships include: the American Judicature Society; Indiana Bar Association and its Board of Managers 1975-77; Indianapolis Bar Association; Indiana Academy of Science; past Vice President, 1970 and past President, 1971-72 of the Indiana Defense Lawyers Association and its Board of Directors 1967-72; Indiana Historical Society; Marshall County Historical Society and its Board of Directors 1969-75; Sagamore of the Wabash; the American Legion; and Phi Delta Phi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Joyce Ann Hoppenrath; second wife Mary E. Shumaker and daughter Natalie Gay Wampler.

Survivors include a niece Vivian Zollinger, a nephew Roderic Wampler and his primary caregiver Barbara Ellis.

No services are planned. Entombment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements handled by: Crown Hill Funeral Home. -- Indianapolis Star on August 11, 2004
