Samuel was the only child born to Clarence Woods and Hattie Aley, who married in December of 1908 around Christmas time.

Sam, aged 20, was again living with his parents. Samuel, Evelyn, and Carolyn Sue appeared together on the 1940 Census, living in Culver, Marshall, Indiana at 441 S. Main St. Sam was earning a living as a bus driver.

1951 - Jan 24 - Sam Woods Now Affliated With Thoner And Sons
    Sam WOods, veteran Culver motors mechanic, is now affillated with E. Thoer and Sons Chevrolet, Inc.

    Announcement of the appointment to the staff at Thoner's is contained elsewhere in today's Citizen.

    For the past several years Sam has operated his own motor service on South Main Street.


1952 - Jul 2 - Appoint Sam Woods Sales Representative Here For Morcomb Buick
    Boyd W. Morcombe has announced the appointment of Sam Woods, 439 South Main Street, as the sales representative for both new Buicks and used cares for the Morcombe Buick for the Culver Area

    The appointment was announced last week. Sam, as he is familiarly known to his friends, is a veteran in the automotive field having bee associated with car sales and mechanical work since 1928.

    He was a partner in a Winamac form handled Chrysler-Plymouth sales and Studebakers from 1936-1939.

    A native of Brook, Ind. he has been a resident of Culver since 1936.

1961 Mar 22 - Local Residents Purchase Hunting And Fishing Camp
    Leaving Culver For Canada

    Mr. and Mrs. Sam Woods have sold their home and business, Woods Sales and Service, at 439 South Main Street to Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Keyser of Culver .

    The Keysers will occupy the home and Mrs. Keyser's brother Mike Fitterling, - will operate the business.

    Mr. and Mrs. Woods, who have been Culver residents since 1936 and have been in business here for 20 years, will leave Monday for Ontario, Canada, where they have purchased a hunting and fishing camp on Oba Lake with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gene McFarland, formerly of Burr Oak.

    The McFarlands recently sold their home to Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Butler of Plymouth.

    The camp is located at Mile 212, A.C.R., via Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, which is a distance of 588 miles plus a 60-mile train trip from Culver .

    The Woods and McFarlands have our best wishes for success in their new business ventures.
      Woods Cabins - Gene and Sue McFarland purchased the resort probably from Charlie Clark who built the few original cabins and ran it with her parents Sam and Evelyn Woods. They had no children and had dual citizenship with Canada and the US.
        Between 1960 -1975 Sam Woods and his family established this camps reputation as one of the finest in the Algoma region; Accessible only by train or bush plane, Wood’s Cabins, is situated on the shores of beautiful, and remote, Oba Lake. As the first fishing outfitter located on Oba Lake, Wood’s Cabins has been in business since 1957.
