John H. Button, 83, 2221 S. Wabash Ave., died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 1990 at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was owner of Button Motors in Kokomo and had been in the auto business since 1932.

Born June 6, 1906 in Hendricks County, he was the son of Omer and Martha (Hollingsworth) Button.

He was a member, served on several boards, and was a former trustee of the First Congregational Christian Church, Kokomo. He was a member of Howard Lodge No. 93 F & AM, Murat Shrine and Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Kokomo Country Club, Elks Lodge 190, Kokomo Rotary Club and was former treasurer and board member of the YMCA.

He was formerly a member of the National Dealer Advisory Council for Dodge dealerships and he had been on the advertising council for the regional dealerships.

He was married Aug. 7, 1929 to Doris Parker, who died July 17, 1968.

He was married May 14, 1970 to Isabelle Hill, who survives with two sons, Don P. Button, Kokomo, and Rev. John D. Button, Zephyrhills, Fla.; three grandchildren; one grandchild; and one sister, Mabel Lebanon.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Congregational Christian Church with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Fenn Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m.Tuesday.

Rev. Dr. John D. Button passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on August 20th, 2024.

Dr. Button was born May 14, 1939 to Doris Parker Button and John Harrison Button in Kokomo, Indiana.

He was predeceased by his wife, Meredith Payne Button, and his brother, Don Button.

He is survived by his children, Dr. Kristen Gael Button Thibodeau and Scott Parker Button, as well as six grandchildren.

John graduated from Kokomo High School. He then headed to Indiana University and received a BS degree in Anatomy/Physiology and a Master’s degree in Botany. John then headed to Andover Newton Theological Seminary where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Divinity in 1966, a Master’s in Sacred Theology in 1969 and a doctorate in Pastoral Care in 1979.

John was ordained in 1963 and served churches in Maine, Massachusetts, and St. Louis, as well as, the First Congregational Church of Lake Worth. He switched occupations at age 50 to become a Pastoral Counselor in West Palm Beach.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday September 15th at 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Lake Worth, 1415 North “K” Street, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460.

A reception will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations be given to the First Congregational Church of Lake Worth Memorial Fund or another charity organization that is passionate to your heart.

Isabelle Button, 89, 2221 S. Wabash Ave., died 12:47 a.m.Saturday, Dec 30, 2000 at Saint, Joseph Hospital & Health Center. She was born May 1, 1911, in Kokomo, the daughter of I. Raymond and Ethel (Shillinger) Baker.

After the death of her mother, she and her father lived with her grand parents William Baker.

She graduated from Kokomo High School.

She was married to Clyde Hill, who died Jan. 3, 1955.

In 1970, she married John H. Button, who died April 15, 1990.

She was a decicated member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Kokomo for more than 70 years, having served as director of the children's choir, a member of the adult choir and on many boards and committees.

Since 1970, she regularly attended services at First Congregational Christain Church, United Church of Christ of Kokomo, and was a diligent volunteer at the Nearly New Shop.

She was an active member of Chapter C of the PEO SIsterhood and over the years served the office of president, treasurer and chaplain. She was also an active member of the Deplhian Book Club.

During her life, she was employed for a period of time at the Kokomo YWCA, and for many years she was a teacher at finishing and modeling schools.,both in Kokomo and Indianapolis.

Surviving are two step-sons and their wives: Don P. and Ann K. Button, Kokomo; Dr. John D. and Meredith Button, Atlantis, Fla.; three step-grandchildren: Elizabeth A. Ballew, Indianapolis; Kristen G. Thilbodeau, Derry, N. H.; Scott P. Button, Stuart, Fla.; four step-great grandchildren: Anna E. Campbell, Colin P. Campbell both of Indianapolis; Makenzie M. Button, Stuart, Fla. Lauren M. Thibodeau, Derry N. H. She was also survived by cousins.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Grace United Methodist Church, 219 W. Mullberry St. Kokomo, with Dr. Gary FOrbes officiating, assisted by Dr. John D. Button and the Rev. Scott Keehn.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kokomo.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. untill service time at the church Tuesday.
