Culver — Virginia Lee McIntyre Fisher, 86, of Culver , passed away Jan. 28, 2009 at 9:30 p.m. while in residence at Miller's Merry Manor, Culver .

Virginia was born in her family home in Logansport on May 1, 1922. She was raised in Logansport and spent her summers on Lake Maxinkuckee. Her grandmother was among the first settlers of the north end of Long Point. Virginia attended Purdue for a year and went on to study window display at the Chicago Art Institute. She married Richard L. Fisher in 1943 and they had five daughters. Virginia was a charter member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Carmel. She ran the Episcopal Food Bank in downtown Indianapolis for 10 years. Later after making their permanent residence on the South Shore of Lake Maxinkuckee she was instrumental in establishing St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church in Culver . Virginia's love of the lake led to the formation of the Antiquarian and Historical Society. Her dream of creating a Culver Town Park was realized when Heritage Park was established.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Fisher of Culver ; daughters: Pamela Fisher of Culver , Priscilla Fisher (George) of Naples, Fla. and Jennifer Fisher Shea (Jamie) of Culver ; grandchildren: Nicki Birrell Jentgen (Phil), George Birrell, James Fisher Shea, David Lingle; and two great-grandchildren: Emily Jane Jentgen and Devon Lingle.

She was preceded in death by two daughters: Jenny Lee Fisher, in infancy, and Melissa Fisher Birrell.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Culver Academy Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church, 515 State St., Culver , IN 46511.
