JOHN W. CROMLEY
John W. Cromley, son of Henry and d Angelina Cromley, was born February 9, 1859, in Marshall County, Indiana, and fell asleep in Jesus April 18, 1932, at his home 504 Washington Street, Culver, Indiana, reaching the age of seventy three years, two months and nine days.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Reed, December 26, 1882, in Culver, Indiana.

This union was blessed with three daughters: Mrs. Roy E. Cannon of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Gladys Wilson of Culver, Indiana, and Maggie Dortha who died in infancy.

Mr. Cromley was a successful farmer, and in his latter years rendered faithful and appreciative service as a carpenter and contractor.

Not only was he a home builder, but he was very much devoted to his home and family.

A number of times he expressed his desire of helping in the home duties for a few years more. He gave his best for his home.

Brother Cromley was converted in his youthful years and united with the Immanuel Evangelical Church four miles south of Culver. He was devoted and loved his church and served as steward and trustee for a number of years.

In the year 1899 the membership of the above named church was transferred to the newly constructed church in Culver where he held his membership until his death.

Two years ago his health began to fail, and the last year he was confined to his home. Through all of his great suffering a spirit of patient and loving appreciation for the kindness received from his companion and daughter Gladys. Neither did he lose faith in God, nor in the power of his Lord and Master to take care of him in the hour of death. He said: "God's will be done, I am ready to go and be with my Lord." His end was peace.

Those who mourn his departure are the following named persons: his widow, Mrs. John W. Cromley; two daughters: Mrs. Roy E. Cannon, of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Gladys Wilson, Culver, Indiana; Two brothers: Frank F. Cromley, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Jacob Cromley, Culver; Three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Burkett; Mrs. Amanda La Bounty; Mrs. Clara Overmyer, all of Culver, Indiana. Four grandchildren: Woodrow Wilson, Culver, Indiaia, Jack, Billie, and Mary Lou Cannon, Portland, Oregon.

May the good Lord grant a reunion in Heaven.

Mrs. John Cromley Died At Home of Daughter
Mrs. Elizabeth Cromley, widow of John W. Cromley, died at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Roy E. Cannon, in Portland, Ore., on Saturday, May 17.

She had been in ill health for some time.

The Cromleys lived in Culver where Mr. Cromley died in 1933.

Mrs. Cromley went to Portland about ten years ago to make her home.

Mrs. Cannon will arrive in Culver Thursday morning with the body and friends may call at the Easterday Funeral home until 1:00 p. m.

Saturday when the remains will be taken to the E. U. B. church where services will be held at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon, May 24. Rev. F. C. Wacknitz will be in charge, and burial will be in the family lot in Culver cemetery. - The Culver Citizen Wed, May 21, 1947 ·Page 1


ELizabeth Cromley DIes In Oregon; Funeral Saturday
Culver, May 22 - The body of Mrs. ELizabeth Cromley; a former resident whi died Saturday evening at Portland, Ore., arrived here this afternoon at the Easterday funrerl home.

Friends may call at the mortuary until 1 o'clock DST Saturday afternoon when the body will be ta ken to the Evangelical United Brethern Church for services at 2 o'clock with Rev. F. C. Wacknitz officiating.

Mrs. cromely, the widow of John W. Cromly whi died in 1933, had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. ROy Cannon, at Portland for the past ten years.

She had been ill for some time

Burial will be in the family lot in Culver cemetery.
