1939 Jun 26 - Opens Filling Station on South Main Street
    The Deep Rock Filling Station was opened Saturday on the corner of South Main and Davis Streets.

    Arthur Tomack is the manager, who moved here a week ago and is occuping the house next door to th new station.

    Deep Rck gasoline and oilis are being handled by Mr. Tomack


1940, Oct 2 Claude Mikesell Takes Over Deep Rock Station
    claude Mikesel became the manager of the Deep rock service station on South Main street yesterday and annouces he will continue bulk delivers

    He Has severed his connections with the Gasfill Oli company.

Above is pictured the collection of scrap rubber in township by the Standard Oli Company, Herman Gardner, local agent; Hand's Service Station, and Lake Shore Garage made the collections, along with 200 pounds from the Deep Rock Station and two tons by the county highway department, headed by Mr. Duddleson. The total amount is 10 tons, and does not inculde the scrap rubber collected by other oil companies as this community's contribution to the nation-wide scrap rubber drive.


1942, Aug. 5 - Beg Your Pardon -
    It was stated in last week's issue that the Deep Rock Service Station had contributed 200 pounds of scrap rubber, while the station had collected 1500 pounds, second higest in Culver.


1942 - Jan 28 - Peanut Machines Stolen
    A burgler broke into the Deep Rock Service Station in the south part of Culver Monday night and carried away two peanut vending machines.

    The proprietor estimated one machine contained about $7 in pennies since it was empty of nuts.

    The other had some coins or the equivalent in nuts.

    Franklin Blair Jones, age 16 of Culver... On the night of January 26, 1943, Jones broke into the Deep Rock Filling Station at Culver...




1950 - Aug. 10 - Sam Schrimsher to manage service station recently purchased by Cities Service Oil Co.

1951, Jan 24 - Complete Servixe Station Remodeling
    Remodeling and the expansion of the facilities of the Cities Service Station on South Main Street has been completed, Sam Schrimsher, proprietor, has announced.

    Through the added improvements the service station is now equipped for complete carAug 10 1950 servicing and car washing.

1952 - Dec 17 - Dan Weirick Leases Culve Service Station
    Dan Weirick has leased the Cities Service Station at 527 South Main St., it was announced this week by G. M. Lane of Michigan City, district supervisor for Cities Service.

    The new management last Saturday.

    1954, Jan 27 -target=new Albert Barshes Takes Over Cities Service Station

    Albert Barshes, formerly of Chicago, is the new owner and operator of the Cities Service Station at 527 South Main Street. at the south end of town

    Mr. Barshes, in taking over the popular service station formerly mannaged by Ben Lyric, announced long hours, both daily and Sunday, for the convenience and accomodation of his customers. These hours are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. At other hours, in case of emergency, he can be reached at his home phone, 633-W.

    Al's Service Station, as the new Culver business enterprise is now known, will specialize in expert car washing. He invites everyboby to drop by and get acquainted.

    In chicago Mr. Barshes was employed as a blacksmith at Electric Motors.

    Mr. and Mrs. Barshes ar living in the apartment in the Deb Jordan home across from the service station, making it handy for night calls. They have two daughters Joan, 11 and Beverly, 6. Joan is in the fifth frade and Beverly is in the second grade.

    The Barshes are members of the Roman Catholic Church
