James W. “Walley” SPERRY, 76, of 19170 Sixth Road, Plymouth, formerly of Rt. 5, Rochester (Tiosa), died at 1:35 a.m. today at Holy Cross Parkview Hospital, Plymouth. He had been in failing health for four years.

He was born Sept. 20, 1910 at Bunker Hill to Frank C. and Lela Bell BUSSARD SPERRY. He had lived in Rochester a number of years, then moved to Culver . For the last 12 years he had lived in Plymouth. On Oct. 31, 1933 in Rochester at the Baptist parsonage he married Marguerite L. COOK, who survives. He was a retired farmer, had worked in the maintenance department of the Culver School Corporation, and had owned and operated the former Sperry Restaurant, Culver , for nine years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Grovertown, and was in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving with the wife are three daughters, Nancy BERRICK SCHRIMSHER and Mrs. Delbert (Elizabeth) GROSSMAN, both of Plymouth, and Mrs. Joseph (Dawn) WOOTEN, Bloomington; three sons, David L. [SPERRY], Merrillville; Frank L. [SPERRY], Michigan City, and James Phillip [SPERRY], Hebron; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. George (Maxine) FRANZ, Culver . A sister preceded in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Gene FLICKENGER officiating. Burial will be in the Reichter Cemetery, northeast of Rochester. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until services.
