Robert J. DISCHER, 66, Culver , died Tuesday at 1 a.m. in Robert Long hospital, Indianapolis.

Born Jan. 7, 1904, in Logansport, he was the son of John and Dessie GILLIS DISCHER.

His marriage was May 24, 1930, to Tamar SMITH, who survives.

Owner and operator of R. J. Discher Furniture store in Logansport, he was a member of the Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and the Elks lodge, the Orient lodge number 272, F & AM lodge, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce and the Calvary Presbyterian church, all of Logansport.

Surviving with the wife are one brother, Eddie DISCHER, Logansport; one sister, Mrs. Florence MASTERS, Logansport, and nieces and nephwes [nephews].


Final rites will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Kroeger funeral home, Logansport, with the Rev. Ronald FELTY officiating.

Burial will be in the Mount Hope cemetery, Logansport.

Friends may call at the funeral home. The Elks lodge of Logansport will conduct memorial services Wednesday in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. and the F & AM lodge will conduct memorial services Thursday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Tamar S. Discher

Culver — Former longtime resident of Logansport, Tamar S. Discher, 102, Culver , died with her family around her on Monday, March 12, 2007, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver .

Born April 22, 1904, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Walter and Ellen Mullen Smith.

After graduating from high school, Tamar fell in love and married Robert Discher. Together they owned and operated the R.J. Discher Furniture Store in Logansport, providing fine quality furniture.

Tamar was an interior decorator who decorated many of the elegant homes, business offices and sororities in the area until she retired at the age of 83.

She and Bob were longtime residents of Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver , where they maintained lifelong interests in the lake’s welfare.

Lovingly known as “Auntie” to family, she was an exquisite decorator, a gifted artist in both oil painting and watercolors.

She was a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority.

Surviving are one sister, Josephine Barnes; nephews, Tom Barnes and his wife, Jeanne, and Edward Discher; and nieces, Patricia Moder and Ann Barnes, Ph.D.

Her parents and husband preceded in death.

Friends and family are invited to gather with “Auntie’s” family from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday in Bonine-Odom Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Maxinkuckee Environmental Fund, P.O. Box 187, Culver IN 46511.

Services will be held privately. Visitation will be from 10:30 to noon EST Friday in the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home.

My fondest memory of this dear lady is her out sweeping in front of her cottage - or it just seemed like she was always there - and when David Burns passed by she would swing her broom - she sure did swing one mean broom!

What the story behind it was I never knew - Only seemed as if every time David passed by she was out ther sweeping away - only so she could swing that broom at him as he passed by. BOth would laugh and smile.
