CULVER - Charlotte W. Montgomery, 96, of Culver passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at the
Catherine Kasper Life Center in Donaldson with her daughter, Charann, by her side.
Charlotte was born October 8, 1920, one of four children born to Charles and Anna Schmid.
She was married to George Montgomery in 1940 and together they raised two children.
The couple operated South Side Motor Express in Chicago. When George served in the military
during WWII, Charlotte continued to run the business, raise their son Jack, and worked in a
plant until George was discharged from the military and returned home.
George preceded her in death in 1997.
Charlotte liked to play Bingo, and was a wonderful cook, and a member of the Culver Sewing
Club, and longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Culver. She enjoyed being involved
in many family activities and going out to eat pasta at Olive Garden. She and George loved
to pontoon together on Lake Maxinkuckee. She truly enjoyed her many long days spent
around the lake.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter Charann (Kenneth) Thornburg of Culver; son Jack's
beloved friend Kathleen Vesh of Chesterton; grandchildren Denise (David) Daugharty of
Culver and Lyn (Steve) Thiebe of Faunsdale, Alabama; great grandchildren A.J. and Ryan
Morin, Heather Scarberry, and Tori and Teresa Daugharty.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, and son
John "Jack" Montgomery,
2 brothers, and 1 sister.
A time to gather with family and friends will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, on
Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 3 to 7 p.m. EST. Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate services at
the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Culver, on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 10 a.m. EST.
Memorials may be given to The Lutheran Hour Ministries or to St. Jude Childrens Research
Hospital .
