CULVER - John W. "Jack" Montgomery, 74, of Culver, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, surrounded by family.

Jack was born in Evergreen Park, Ill., on Sept. 1, 1941, to George and Charlotte (Schmid) Montgomery. He graduated from Fenger High School, Chicago, in 1959 and attended Dakota Wesleyan University.

He was the owner/operator of South Side Motor Express in South Holland, Ill. In South Holland he also served 14 years as a volunteer fireman and EMT.

In 1985, he retired to Culver, where he had spent summers since he was 10 years old.

Jack was a loving and dedicated son and brother, a wonderful uncle, and a committed friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Jack is survived by his mother - Charlotte Montgomery, sister - Charann (Ken) Thornburg, nieces - Denise (David) Daugharty and Lynn (Steve) Thiebe and great-nieces and nephews - Tori and Teresa Daugharty, A.J. and Ryan Morin, and Heather Scarberry. He is also survived by his best friend, Kathleen Vesh, with whom he shared 19 years in a loving relationship.

He was preceded in death by his father - George H. Montgomery, uncles Chester (Ellinor) Schmid and Charles (Virginia) Schmid, aunt - Mildred (David) Bridges, and grandmother - Anna Schmid, who shared a love of candy and Lake Maxinkuckee with Jack and his sister, Charann.

A time of visitation will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015 from 4 – 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Culver, on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015 at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow at Culver Masonic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jack's name to Wounded Warriors or the Marshall County Humane Society.
