All the property west of West Shore Drive (non-lake) was railroad track and bed.

1976 - The Pennsylvania Railroad track was abandoned and lot owners on South Street and the west side of the lake purchased the right-of-way between their property and the lake.

1908 - May 14 - Mr. and Mrs. J.h. Shrofe of Terre Haute are now enjoying the shade at Shady Point and while here are building an addition to their cottage

1911 - Aug 31 - The Shaleys, who have been at Shady point, leave next Thursday for the home. The Shrofes of Terre Haute will be up to occupy their cottage for two weeks

Shady Point AKA Duenweg Cottage - (as not sure which Duenweg, is attached to all)

As stated in Lake Maxinkuckee: A Physical and Biological Survey it was located in front of the Arlington Station and adjacent to the Arlington Hotel grounds. This was formerly known as the Duenweg cottage.

1938 - May 11 - House minus Flue Caused Fire Alarm

A fire alarm Monday morning uncovered a news story that has probably never been written before - a house without a chimney.

Donald Behmer recently purchased and remodeled the house near the old Arlington Station known as "Shady Point" and last week moved into the place.

On Monday morning a fire was built in a stove and in about an hour smoke was noticed seeping thorugh the roof, and the fire truck was called.

The firs lads tried to get into the attic to locate the fire, but the smoke drove them back so they started chopping through the roof and further incestigation revealed that the cold chimney had been dismantled to below the roof and a new covering had been placed over it.

Water on the fire in the stove quickly stopped the "blaze" in the attic

The damage to the roof is covered by insurance and Don Behmer has decided to build a chimney before the stove is used again.
