Culver — James A. Baker, 59, of Culver passed away at 11:26 p.m. March 17, 2012 at the Catherine Kasper Life Center in Donaldson.

James was born to Charles and Beatrice (Adams) Baker April 15, 1952 in Plymouth.

He was a 1970 graduate of Culver High School. After graduation he joined the National Guard. He loved to travel anywhere but especially enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Hawaii. Family trips were his favorite.

James was a former owner/operator of the Lakeside Cinema in Culver . He also worked at Culver Academies as a food service supervisor. He liked to build things and did home construction. He was also passionate about attending his church.

James is survived by his mother Beatrice Baker of Culver ; son Ben Baker of Rochester; daughter R. Jill (John) Gavlick of Culver ; sisters J ulie (Roger) Romig of Culver , Vickie (Richard) Zehner of Monterey, and Debra (Joe) Reinhold of Culver ; grandchildren Cody Baker and Peyton Gavlick; and stepgrandchild Damien Byers. He was preceded in death by his father and sisters Kelly Baker and Susan Baker-Fout.

A time of sharing memories with the family will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Odom Funeral Home in Culver . Rev. Floyd Allen will officiate funeral services Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Odom Funeral Home with visitation for one hour before the service.

Memorials may be given to the Delong Gospel Lighthouse Church.
