Owner 0f Culver Laundrv Is Killed in Auto Accident
LeOra Jean Porter, 35-yearold Peru businessman and owner of the Crystal Speed Wash at
Culver , was killed when his station wagon was struck by a semitrailer truck at Peru's main
downtown intersection.
Mr. Porter was also a summer resident at Peru Court, Culver .
Police said the driver of the semi, Robert L . Hinshaw, 38, Pontiac, 111., and a passenger
in Porter's vehicle, William D. Bennett. 39 , Peru, were injured.
Bennett was listed in critical condition at Duke s Memorial Hospital, Peru, where Hinshaw reportedly
was suffering from shock.
Police said the pavement was slick from rain.
Mr. Porter was owner and operator of the Porter Insurance Agency at Peru and also had a chain of laundry
and dry cleaning establishments in Peru, Columbus City, Culver , Plymouth and Royal Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Eikenberry Funeral Home. Peru.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at Mexico, Ind.
Survivor s include the widow, Mrs. Sally An n Porter : three children, Camill e Ann, Suzanne
and Joe Dee Porter, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Bernic e Berr y of exico and a sister, Mrs. Carl

Sallyann Dixon grew up in Peru, Ind., the only child of Julia and Oscar Ridenour.
Although she cherished the many friends she came to know while living in other towns,
her heart always remained in Peru. H
Her summer home of 60 years on Lake Maxinkuckee was also very dear to her.
Sallyann attended Christian College in Columbia, Mo., and graduated with a bachelor degree
in social work from Indiana University, Bloomingto
n.
She married Leora J. Porter in 1949, and together they had three daughters. Sadly, he died
in a car accident in 1964.
In 1967 she remarried (Paul Kiesling) and moved to Logansport where she lived for several years.
After their divorce, she was briefly married to Bob Jones. She did not, however, give up her
beloved family home in Peru during this time.
She returned to Peru and married James A. Dixon, formerly of Logansport. They were married 16 years.
She lived there until moving to Greencastle in 2001.

Paul Edward Kiesling, 83, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2008.
He was born Aug. 11, 1924, in Logansport, Ind., to George and Mary (nee Hahnert) Kiesling.
Paul served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.
He was a member of the Elks Club 2606 and American Legion Post 103, both in Punta Gorda.
He and his wife moved to Punta Gorda after he retired from Paul Kiesling Produce in 1986.
He worked as a golf starter and ranger at Maple Leaf Country Club for 10 years, until his
declining health forced his retirement.
Paul was of the Lutheran faith and made his peace with the Lord before his death.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 35 years, Marilyn; one son; two daughters; brother,
George (Amy) Kiesling; sister, Catherine Joyce; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;
two stepchildren; eight step- grandchildren; 12 step- great-grandchildren; and several nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert.

La Porte, La Porte County, Indiana son of Reuben Ellis Jones and Clara Belle Mitch. They divorced
Robert E. Jones, 85, of La Porte, IN, passed away peacefully at 1:43 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2014
at Ritten House Senior Living in Michigan City.
He was born on September 13, 1928 in Renssellear, IN to Ruben and Clara Belle (Mitch) Jones.
Robert was the co-owner of Mickey's Bar in La Porte, which he purchased in 1982. He also owned two Phillips
66 gas stations; one on East Lincolnway and on Pine Lake Ave.
Robert was employed with Plimpton Press for 25 years until they closed.
He was a lifetime resident of La Porte and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was also a member
of the Northern Indiana Modelers Association and Academy of Model Aeronautics. Robert enjoyed building and
flying radio controlled airplane. He was also a great mechanic who could fix anything and remodeled their house.
On September 12, 1947 in La Porte he married Janis M. (Grandorf) Jones, who preceded him in death.
Also preceding in death are his parents; one son, Garry Jones three brothers, Jack Jones, Sr., Charles Jones,
and Gordan Jones; two sisters, Juanita Folgate and Gloria J. Davies.
Surviving are his four children, Michael (Rondi) L. Jones of La Porte, Mark (Cathy) A. Jones of Burlington, NC.,
Cynthia (Richard) A. Bechinski of Michigan City, and Jeffery (Diane) L. Jones of South Bend, IN.; Fifteen
grandchildren, Brian, Jaime, Gail, Chris, Amanda, Brandon, Nick, Tony, Kristy, Christopher, Nathan, Lisa,
Stacie, Grant, and Britne;. Also surviving are twenty six great grandchildren, daughter-in-law Sandra Jones
and extended family members, Connie Dennis and Mary Gigliotti.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday April 26, 2014 at Lakeview Funeral
Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd. La Porte with Pastor JoEllyn Chadwick officiating. Visitation will be
from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 and from 10 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Cremation will take place following visitation on Friday. Burial will take place in Pine Lake Cemetery.

James A. Dixon, 78, Culver, formerly of Logansport, died at 10:22 a.m. Saturday in Sun Health Care
Center, Sun City, Ariz. Born June 3, 1915, in Chicago, he was the son of Homer and Delta Hipshire On July 9.
1977, he was married, in Culver, to Sallyann Ridenour Montgomery. Dixon, who survives.
He was a sales representative for Frost Paint & Oil Co., of Minncapolis, Minn., after retiring from the Mobil Oil
Company after 30 years as a sales representative there. A 1933 graduate of Logansport High School, Mr. Dixon had
attended Indiana University.
He was a member of the Logansport Elks Lodge and Calvary Presbyterian Church.
Also surviving are three sons, James S., Boulder, Colo., Michael S., Brownsville, Maryland, and Patrick S., Kenai,
Alaska; one daughter, Judith L. Smith, Chelsea, Mich.; two step-daughters, Camille Singleton, Wabash, and Suzanne
Roach, Greencastle; one sister, Vivian Thomas, Muncie; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews. One sister and one step-daughter preceded him in death.
A private burial service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery.
