Peter Onesti  

n 1954, Pearl Onesti relocated from Chicago to Culver with her husband Peter. Together they owned and operated Lakeside Grocery at 630 Lakeshore Drive until Peter’s death in 1975. Soon after, Pearl opened the Lakeside Coffee Shop next door to the grocery at 622 Lake Shore Drive. The coffee shop was in operation until a fire destroyed the building in 1978.

Peter Onesti, Owner Of Lakeside Grocery, Dies
Peter Onesti, 67, 622 Lakeshore Drive, Culver , died at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13 at the Parkview Hospital where he was rushed by ambulance following a heart seizure at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Lakeside Grocery which he owned and operated.

Mr. Onesti was born October 5, 1902 at Lugo, Italy and had lived in Culver for the past 16 years coming from Chicago. He was married to Pearl H. Kline on June 1, 1935 in Chicago.

He was a member of the Henry H. Culver Lodge 617 F & AM, the South Bend Scottish Rite, the South Bend Shrine Club and the Culver Lions Club.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Judith Marr, Urbana, Ill.; four brothers, Carlo, Scivio, Albert and William Onesti, all of Wittenberg, Wise; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Houterman of Pennsburg, Pa.; Mrs. Dalia Tichy, Bowler, Wis; Mrs. Alga Duffee, Milwaukee, Wise; and one granddaughter.

Services were conducted Wednesday at the Culver Grace United Church of Christ, with Rev. Harold Hohman, former pastor of the church, officiati

ng. Burial was at the Culver Masonic Cemetery.

The Henry H. Culver Lodge conducted memorial services on Tuesday evening at the Easterday-Bonine Funeral Home which had charge of the arrangements. - THURSDAY, APRIL 17, 1969
