1957 - Aug 7 - Why "The Outdoorsman" Sports Store Closed
Culver, Ind.
Editor, CITIZEN:
For fear others might misunderstand what friend columnist Bob Kyle intended by mentioning The Outdoorsman
as being out of business, even though I'll probably be called Pollyanna again, let me say this:
The Outdoorsman closed only because of the inability of its owner to cope with problems other than the
community. The Outdoorsman or any other business can make a reasonable success in this community.
This is a good community and good people in it. True they don't always do or say things I accept completely,
but So what. Since when has mankind been required to have the same ideas and opinions to reach the status of
being good.
I believe in Culver and its potentials. I've had many opportunities to live elsewhere. My work takes me to many
communities and I have probably seen as many others as anyone in our town yet when the choice comes I'll take
Culver.
This letter is intended only to say that Culver is a good place to make a living in. The Outdoorsman closed
because of me not the community.
By the way, someday The Outdoorsman will live again under someone else's leadership.
This is no criticism of "Lake Water." I'm just grateful to this community for what it has and still gives to me
in spite of the fact that to date I have not given much in return.
