1917 - "Three Times and Out"
... The next fire was of a more serious character.
It was discovered breaking through the roof of Garland Bogardus's building opposite the depot, and
before it was out it had run up from the chimney near the eaves to the comb of the roof.
The fire company used two lines of hose, one on the outside and the other in the attic. The kitchen
on the second floor at the rear of the building was thoroughly soaked, and water ran down into the
pool room, but did small damage there. It will take $100 or more to make good the fire and water damage.
Mr. Bogardus and his family think it was a piece of good luck that the fire occurred at 11 o'clock in
the forenoon instead of at night.
