    Dr. John T. "Jack" Burns, 81, of West Lafayette, died at 8:57 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2007, at George Davis Manor. Born April 13, 1925, to the late William A. and Mary Casey Burns in Hartford City, he received his bachelor's degree in 1948 and his medical degree in 1951, both from Indiana University. He was an intern at Indiana University Medical Center and a pediatric resident at Riley Children's Hospital. He had lived in the Lafayette area since 1954. He served as a pharmacist mate second class in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. His marriage was to Mary Ann Hyman on June 23, 1951, in Logansport, and she survives. Dr. Burns was a pediatrician in Lafayette from 1954 until his retirement from private practice in 1992. He was a charter member of Church of the Blessed Sacrament and was a member of the Tippecanoe County, Indiana and American medical associations and the Indiana Pediatric Association. He was former president of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center staff, and at Indiana University was a member of the Marching 100 and Alpha Tau Omega. He was also a member of the John Purdue Club, was the West Lafayette ommunity School Corporation physician for 36 years, codirected the Carey Home for Boys and was an Eagle Scout. He was the Junior Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Young Man of 1960. Dr. Burns enjoyed gardening, especially gardenias. Surviving with his wife are three sons, Dr. J. Kevin Burns (wife: Pamela) of Fort Wayne, Eric H. Burns (wife: Marti) of West Lafayette and Andrew T. Burns (wife: Ruthelen) of Carmel; and a brother, William C. Burns (wife: Elizabeth) of Lafayette. He enjoyed spending time with family, caring for children and tinkering around the house. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Kevin John, Alexander, Stewart, Madeline, Andrew G., Sarah, Christopher, Christian and Grace. Preceded in death by 2 sisters, Julia Burns Shafer and Martha Burns Scheidler. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Funeral Mass Thursday at Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Fr. David Douglas officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to Riley Children's Hospital, 50 S.
