Ralph graduated from Wabash College and went on to a career of farmer and stockbroker and was a retired self-employed truck driver. After his retirement Ralph in 1987 made Lake Maxinkuckee his full time residence and thus at his death he was a 13-year resident of Culver .

Ralph C. Vonnegut, Jr., 71, Culver , died at 1 p.m. Sunday at his residence. He was born to Ralph, Sr. and Eleanor Goodall Vonnegut in Indianapolis.

Mr. Vonnegut was a retired self-employed truck driver. He was a 13-year resident of Culver and a member of the Sierra Club, Maxinkuckee Yacht Club and the Big Brothers & Big Sisters program.

Survivors include his former wife, Natalia Beck, Dunedin, Fla.; two sons, Robert and wife Beth, Islamorada, Fla.; Daniel and wife Heather, Brooklyn, N.Y.; two daughters, Nonie Vonnegut-Gabovitch and husband David, Indianapolis; Kristin Vonnegut-Huffman and husband Tom, Avon, Minn.; nine grandchildren; one brother, Walter G. Vonnegut, Indianapolis.

Services are at 4 p.m. Wednesday at his residence, 814 East Shore Drive, Culver . Private burial will take place. Friends may call from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday at the residence. Bonine Funeral Home, Culver , is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Maxinkuckee Environmental Society, Marshall County Big Brothers & Big Sisters, the Culver Public Library or the Humane Society of Local and State Parks.

RALPH C. VONNEGUT Jr., 71, Culver , formerly of Indianapolis, died Oct. 21. He was a retired truck driver. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Sierra Club, Maxinkuckee Yacht Club and Big Brothers. Memorial contributions may be made to a local Humane Society or to a state park. Calling: 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 in the home of his daughter, Nonie Vonnegut-Gabovitch, 5719 Winthrop Ave., Indianapolis. Other survivors: children Robert, Daniel Vonnegut, Kristin Vonnegut-Huffman brother Walter G. Vonnegut former wife Natalia Beck nine grandchildren. 4 Apr. 2008 - The Marshall County Community Foundation (MCCF) is pleased to announce the Ralph C. Vonnegut, Jr. Fund. The purpose of the endowment is to provide funding for environmental, educational, or recreational projects directly related to Lake Maxinkuckee, located in Culver , Indiana. Not-for-profit organizations can submit proposals annually during the Community Foundation's spring grants round. Winning proposals will be chosen by the Community Foundation's Grants Committee. With an approximate endowment of $400,000, the MCCF estimates an annual distribution of $20,000 each year to one or more applicants.

Ralph C. Vonnegut, Jr. grew up in Indianapolis and attended Shortridge High School. As a young man he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and spent his summers at Lake Maxinkuckee. Mr. Vonnegut was a graduate of Wabash College and went on to a career as a farmer and stockbroker. He was the father of four children: Robert Vonnegut (Islamorada, FL), Kristin Vonnegut (Avon, MN), Daniel Vonnegut (Brooklyn, NY), and Eleanor (Nonie) Vonnegut-Gabovitch (Indianapolis, IN), and the grandfather of 12 including Ezra and Eli Vonnegut-Gabovitch. Ralph was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed nature, sailing, kayaking, and was a voracious reader. With a love of Lake Maxinkuckee in his heart, Ralph r eturned to the lake as a full time resident in 1987.
