Mrs. Orpha Burkett McFarland, 82, 704 Neuva Gorda St., Culver, died at 9:35 am, Tuesday, at Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth, after and extended illness.

Born March 10, 1902 at Mishawaka to George and Minnie Bernice Ermina Hoover, she had lived at Culver since 1943, going there from Mishawaka. Mrs. McFarland was first married to Richard Burkett, who preceeded her in death in 1944.

She then was married to Scott McFarland in 1947 and he preceeded her in death in 1950.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360 Auxiliary, the Culver Eagles Lodge 3221 Auxiliary and Wesley United Methodist church of Culver.

Surviving are six children: Leora (Mrs.Glenn) Sterzik, Mishawaka; Catherine (Mrs. Clarence) Olsen, Donaldson; Mary (Mrs. Edward) Kowatch, Culver; Linda (Mrs. Robert) Brabant, also of Culver; Leo Burkett, Osceola; and Jack R. Burkett, Carthage, Miss; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Pearce, Mishawaka; and Mrs. Ruth Grise, South Bend. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be conducted at 11am, Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Culver, with Rev. Donald Bowman, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be at Culver Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at Bonine Funeral Home, Culver, from 2 pm, Thursday and at the church for one hour prior to time of services.
