      HEART TROUBLE CAUSE

      W. W. C. "Curry" Barnes, age 54, former local contractor and brother of James I and Charles Barnes, died suddenly at 8 o'clock last night at his cottage at Lake Maxinkuckee, following an attach of heart trouble. Mr. Barnes had been in ill health for the past year but his condition had not been regarde as serious.

      Mr. Barnes whose home is located in Marion, had taken up residence at Culver during the early part of fall for the benefit of his health. Although upon, several occasions he had been subject to heart attacks, his death occurred rather unexpectedly, according to relatives.

      Moves to Marlon.

      Deceased who was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Barnes, entered the contracting business in this city more than twenty years ago with his father and brothers James and Charles Barnes. He later became affiliated in business with Charles Barnes. From this city "Curry" Barnes moved to Marion where be organized his own building company and has since resided there. Hoping to benefit his health, he removed to Culver for the winter, but had planned to return to Marion in the spring.

      Surviving him are the. widow, three brothers James I, Charles and Ben Barnes of this city and one sister, Mrs. Clara Funk of Social Circle, Ga., who with her daughter recently left upon a world tour with the party headed by Miss Ora Cox. It is understood that the party with which Mrs. Funk is traveling have just reached California and efforts will be made immediately to communicate with her. James I. Barnes who is now in Miami Fla. has also been notified of his brother's death.

    ARCHITECT DIES AT HIS SUMMER HOME ON LAKE

    W. W. C. Barnes, Marion - Builder, Expires at Lake Maxinkuckee
      W. W. C. Barnes, well known local architect and contractor, died last night at his summer home on Lake. Maxinkuckee from a heart disability, of which he has been a victim for some time.

      He came home front his work where he is assisting in the construction of a new building at Culver Military Academy, last evening and following the evening meal complained that he was not feeling well. A doctor was called but he died a little while later.

      He was 54 years old this month.

      No arrangements have been made for the funeral as yet: the family not having decided whether his will brought city or taken to Logansport where his brothers and sisters live.

      He is survived by three brothers, James, Charles. and Ben, and one sister, Mrs. Funk, all of Logansport.

      Mr. Barnes was well known in Marion and several buildings now standing in the city were constructed by him. Among these are the. Y. M. A., the Lyric theatre and the building occupied by the Indiana General Service.

      He also assisted in the construction of several of the buildings at Culver Military Academy, among these being the mess hall which is said to be one of the most magnificent buildings of its kind the world. - -Chronicle Tribune, Marion, Indiana January 30, 1924

      Well Known Marion Contractor Passes Away Suddenly

      The funeral services for W. W. C. Barnes, 54, local contractor and arechitect, residing at 817 West Fifth, street, who died suddenly at his summer home Tuesday, night at Lake Maxinkuckce, will be held at Friday the from home of his brother, Charles Barnes, at Logansport, where he formerly resided.

      Burial will be made in a mausoleum in Logansport cemetery.

      Surviring are the widow, one sister, Mrs. Funk of Logansport, and three brothers, James, Charles and. Ben, all of that city.

      Mr. Barnes was in charge of the construction of a building at Culver Military academy.

      He was in his usual health Tuesday and ate hearty supper Tuesday night. Shortly after he complained of being 1ll and died short time later.

      Mr. Barnes was widely known in this city and during his residence here constructed several business blocks including the Lyric Theater building, Indiana General Service building at Fourth and Boots streets, and the Y. M. C. A.

      He also constructed a number of buildings at Culver Military academy, including the mess hall, which is said to be one of the finest mess halls in the country. - Leader-Tribune Marion, Indiana Jan 31, 1924


    The funeral of Curry Barnes was held this afternoon from, the residence of his brother Charles H. Barnes on Front street, conducted by Rev. W. C. Holmes of the Universarist church.     Mrs. Effie Barnes Expires In Marion; Services Wednesday

    Final services for Mrs. Effie Barnes, 90, of Marion, Ind., widow of W. W. C. Barnes, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Diggs Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will be at noon that day in Mt, Hope Cemetery here.

    Friends may call at the funeral home.

    Mrs. Barnes, a resident of Marion since 1901, died at her home there at 3:15 a.m. Saturday

    after a long illness.

    She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and belonged to the Department Club and the YWCA, all in Marion.

    A native of Franklin, Ind., she was born March 25, 1S75, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bronson. Her marriage was in 1898.

    Her husband, a contractor, built the YMCA and IOOF buildings in Marion.

    Survivors are two sons, Don C. Miller of Newtown, Conn., and Jack C. Miller of Morgan Hill, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. F. P. Woolery of Indianapolis and Mrs. Wilson Miller of Detroit, and two grandchildren. --THE PHAROS-TRIBUNE and LOGANSPORT PRESS, SUNDAY, MAY 9,1963


NOTE: it appears that Curry and Effie were guardians of the Miller boys who appears by records to be sons of J. (John) Hyson Miller and Grace Margaret Cornell. Grace Margaret Cornell died 22 Nov 1917 Marion, Grant County, Indiana wife of J Hyson Miller who appears to have remarried 21 Feb 1922 Jackson County, Missouri Joaanna Barnes. The boys retained the "Miller Surname".
