    Josephine S. “Joy” Barnes, 96, Culver , formerly of Logansport, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver .

    Born July 4, 1911, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Walter Smith and Ellen Mullen Smith. She was married to Charles H. Barnes, Jr., who preceded in death in January 1970.

    Mrs. Barnes was a 1928 graduate of Logansport High School. In her active years in Logansport, she was a member of Psi Iota Xi sorority and volunteered at Memorial Hospital for the Mary Dykeman Guild. She also served on the Neal Home Board of Directors for 35 years. Mrs. Barnes was a former member of Calvary Presbyterian Church.

    Joy was a one-time Logansport City Golf champion and runner-up champion in the Logansport City Tennis Tournament.

    Surviving are one son, Thomas C. Barnes and his wife, Jean, Culver ; two daughters, Patricia Moder, Chicago, and Ann Barnes, La Jolla, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

    One sister, Tamar Discher, preceded in death.


    Burial will be private.

    Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday in Kroeger Funeral Home.
