    The Culver Bible Church presently meeting in the Public Library auditorium, was offifcially organized on Sep 26.

    Those subscribing to and signing the consitution have been designated charter member of the new church.

    The church is not affiliated with ant denomination, but is fellowshipingr with the Independent Fundametal Churches of America, and organization composed of approcimately 500 congregationally controlled churches in the United States and Candade

    Tentative plans are underway for acquiring a permanent church edifice.

    A missionary program currently is being carried on which already this year has amounted to nearly one-fifth of the total budget.

    The first pastor of the culver Bible Churc is Maynard G. Tittle, who was graduated from franklin ad Marshall College Lancaster, Pa., with a batchelor of arts degree.

    Rev.Titlereceived his batchelor of diviinity degree from Grace Theological Seminary at wioa Lake, Ind.



1955 - SEP 14 -Bible Church Purchases Ira Kaley Residence
    The CUlver Bible Church has purchaed the Ira Kaley residence at 804 Main Street for a parsonage. Rev.and Mrs. Maynard Tittle were moved into the parsonage last week.


    A building site has been provided fot in the purchase of a lot to the north and one to the south of the house.

    Excavation Begins Within A Week

    More than 60 people gathered last SUnday afternoon at 718 South Main Street to observe a milestone in the life of Culver Bible CHurch.

    The weatherman cooperated, providing a beautiful day for the kickoff of the cherch's eagerly awaited building program.

    Following spirited groun singing, prayer, and specialmusic, the speaer, Rev. Robert Nitz, pastor atthe Mayflower Bible Church at SOuth Bend, challenged the congregation to not forget their main responsibility of spiritual building as work progressed on the physical building.

    Rev. Maynard G. Tittle, able and popular local pastor, turned the first shovel of ground, followed by Milton E. Goble chairman of the building committee

    Instead ofushers taking the offering in the customery manner, the basket was placed in the hole made when the pastor broke ground.

    To close the service those assembled formed an unbroken line on the outline of the proposed building and joined in singing the Doxology.

    Actual excavation for the new edifice willl begun within a week

    The building, with full basement, willl have seating 144, with expandable room for aan additional 56. The educational sectionwill be 32 X 40 feet.

    COst Estimated at $25,000.

    The complete strcture willl cost approximately $25,000 and will be partially made possibly by the Broadway Plan of Church Finance.

    The church will sell bonds in denominations of $50, $100, $250 and $500. bearing five percent interestpayable semi-annually. The bonds will be sold to any interested persons as well as to members.

    A fund has beed establisihed at the State Exchange Bank intowhich a stupulated amont will be placed weekl, calculated to pay the interest coupons and retire the bonds as they become due.

    Boetsma Principal Founder

    Culver Bible Church had its inception when a few people, principall the late Joe Boetsma, felt the neeed for a church which interprets the Bible literally, accepting the entire Bible as being inspired by God.

    Culver Bible Church, as he name implies, considers the Bible as the sole authority and nasis for both doctrine and living, and emphsizes in its preaching the main doctrine of the Bible, salvation through the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ.

    The first meeting was held in January 1951.

    The pulpit was the supplied by students from Grace Theological Seminary at winona Lake, Indiana, until the present pastor, Rev. Title, moved on the field in Novemeber,1952.

    Rev. Tittle is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., and has a Bachelor of Divinity degree from grace Theologoical Seminary.

    Names of Charter Members

    The church adopted its constitution and was officially organized in September 1953, with 12 charter members representing six different denominational backgrounds. The charter memebers were:

    In 1955 the church purchased the bulding lot at 718 South Main Street and the parsonage at 804 South Main Street ferriers Add Lot 9 & 10


    Though a mission field in itself Culver Bible Church has an annual mission budget of $600 to 4800 and contributions to the project for two foreign missionaries

    Services are presently being held in the Culver Public Libary auditorium.


1958 - October 15 - First services were held last Sunday in the new Bible Church now being constructed on South Main Street. Cost is $27,000.00 and was organized in 1951 by Martin Goble and Joe Boetsma Sr. Pastor was Maynard Tittle Nov. 1952. Oct 1958 ?

After nearly a decade of service, the Rev. Maynard G. Tittle has tendered his resignation as pastor, effective July 3

    The official board of the Culver Bible Church announces that Rec. Paul King has been called as pastor of the chuhrch, replacing Rev. Maynard G. Tittle who resigned a few weeks ago to accept a position with the Marshall County Christain Day School.

    Rev. King,former pastor of the Union Chapel at Taneyville, Mo., has moved into the church parsonage and assumed his duties as pastor here.

    His family consists of his wife, Mary Ann and three children: Elizabeth, 12 years of age, David 11 years and Stephen 7 years.

    Rev. King is a graduate of Midwaest Bible and Missionary Institute of St. Louis, Mo. After graduatung from seminary e spent 11 1/2 years in Virginia and Kentucky doing home missionary work and just prior to coming to Culver he spent a year in the Ozark Mountains doing missionary work.

    Before going into the ministry Rev. King's home was bear Strykner, Ohio.

Rev Edwin Cockrill
    Rev.Edwin B.Cockrill, a native of Warrenton,Va. and resident of Winona Lake, INd. has accepted the position as pastor of the Culver Bible Church.

    Reverend COckrill, who has been filling to pulpit at the local church for several weeks began his duties as pastor on unday Nov. 24.

    A graduate of Willian Jennings Bruan University. Reverend Cockrill was State Dirrector of CHild Evangeoism for Wsst Virginia and has served as pastor of churches in Tennessee, Arizona, and Indiana. He was also been engaged in Evangelistic work and in gospel film ministry.

    Last spring Reverend Cockrill resigned his affliations with the Winona Lake Bible Conference after being associated with the conference for 16 years. He is married and has one son.

    The public is cordially invited to attend services on Sundays and Wednesdays at the Culver Bible Church.
