David M. & Sue (Geiselman) Bendy
David M. Bendy was born to Melvin W. and Madeline Bozung Bendy in Perth Amboy, new Jersey. He has an
older sister, Norene Rack of Rahway, New Jersey. Dave went to elementary and high school in Rahway, graduating in 1956.
In June 1956, he entered the United Sates Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and mainly worked on KC-135 refueling tankers and
B-52 bombers. He was stationed in New York, Massachusetts, New Foundland, Texas and California, as well as short tours in Alaska,
Florida, and Illinois during his eight and one-half years of service.
Sue Ann Geiselman was born to
Wilbur and Myra Wagnoer Geiselman in Parkview Hospital, Plymouth. She has one
older brother, Larry Geiselman of Ft. Wayne. She attended elementary and high school in Culver , graduating in 1957. She was graduated
from Ravenscroft Beauty College in 1958 and worked for six years in a hair styling salon in Huntington. It was in 1962,
through a mutual friend in Huntington that Dave and Sue met.
Dave and Sue were married in Rahway, New Jersey while Dave was on Christmas leave. They made their first home in
Merced, California, where Dave was stationed at Castle Air Force Base.
Their first child, Lori Sue, was born at Castle Air Force Base Hospital .
In November 1964, Dave left the service to return to civilian life. The family settled in Culver while Dave was attending
heating and air conditioning school in South Bend.
On a son, James David was born at Plymouth. Shortly the moved to their present home at 315 West Madison Street,
Culver . A second son, Daniel Jay, and he was followed by another son, Thomas Lee.
Dave worked for Rockwell International in Knox for 16 years until they closed in 1982. Since that time, he has worked as a machine
repairman at the Caterpillar Tractor Company in Lafayette.
Sue is a housewife and mother, working part time at the Culver Florist and Gift Shop.
They have been active through the years in Little League baseball. Dave worked as a commissioner and a coach, while Sue worked in
the concession stand. The are member of Grace United Church of Christ where Dave has been a member of the consistory and Sue has
taught church school and was secretary for the Women's Guild. Both are involved with the high school Athletic Boosters where Sue has
been treasurer for four years.
Lori graduated from Culver Community High School in 1983 and is a junior at the University of Notre Dame. She is an accounting major
and wants to become as Certified Public Accountant.
Jim is a Culver Community High School graduate from the class of 1984 and is a sophomore at Indiana University in Bloomington.
He is studying in the College of Arts and Letters.
Dan is a senior at Culver Community High School and will graduate in June, 1986. He is planning to attend Indiana University.
Tom is a sophomore at Culver Community High School and is a member of the clasp of 1988. All of the children have been active in
extracurric ular school activities. The boys lettered in football and baseball.
Our hobbies include sewing, crafts, and watching the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Notre Dame football, Indiana University
Basketball, and Fort Wayne Komet Hockey. - David and Sue Bendy. ---

David M. Bendy, 80, of Culver, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Dave was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on August 15, 1937. He was one of two children born to Melvin and Magdalene
(Bozung)) Bendy. He grew up in Rahway, NJ, where he graduated from high school in 1956. During his Senior year he was
a Private in the New Jersey Army National Guard 102nd Armored Cavalry. In June 1956 he joined the Air Force, travelling to
Newfoundland and Alaska.
Dave met his future wife, Sue Geiselman, while on leave in 1962. He and Sue married on January 4, 1964 in New Jersey.
Having a new wife and baby, Dave decided to leave the Air Force. They settled back in Culver to be closer to Sue's family.
Three more children came along later.
Dave worked at North American Rockwell for many years, eventually leaving to work for Caterpillar Large Engine plant in
Lafayette as a maintenance mechanic.
Dave loved Culver and being around the lake. He and Sue were always involved with the local kids' activities. They also
loved to travel, visiting all 50 states. They especially enjoyed visiting Gettysburg and connecting with his old Air Force
buddies. Dave was described by his family as humble, kind, and a great father and grandfather.
Dave is survived by his wife Sue of Culver; daughter Lori Bendy of Indianapolis; sons James (Susan) Bendy of South Bend,
IN, Daniel Bendy of Plainfield, IN and Thomas (Wendi) Bendy of Culver, IN; grandchildren: Jennifer, Madeline, Joshua, Erin,
Emily, Seth, Mitchell, and Ella; great grandchild: Langley; and sister Noreene (William) Rack of Rahway, NJ.
Private services have been held.
Memorials may be given in Dave's memory to Grace United Church of Christ, 307 N Plymouth St., Culver, IN 46511.
A reception for the family and friends will be held at Grace United Church of Christ in Culver at 12:00 noon on
Sunday, March 25, 2018.
Sue A. Bendy, 79, of Culver, passed away peacefully with her family beside her on Sunday, January 6, 2019.
Sue was born on November 1, 1939, in Plymouth, Indiana, one of two children born to Wilbur and Myra (Wagoner) Geiselman.
After graduating from Culver High School in 1957 she moved to Ft Wayne and enrolled in Ravenscroft Beauty College,
becoming a licensed cosmetologist, a license she retained the rest of her life.
She went to work in Huntington, IN where she
met the love of her life on a double date. She married David Bendy on January 5, 1964 in Rahway, New Jersey. They
eventually came back to Culver and raised their four children.
Sue embraced being a wife and mother. She loved taking care of Dave and the kids, making it a priority to attend as many of
the kids’ activities as possible. She loved to cook for the family and even delivered cookies to friends around town during the
holidays..
Sue enjoyed reminiscing with her high school friends known as the “Gutter Gurls". She was a lifelong Cubs fan and loved her
cats. She enjoyed traveling around the country with Dave to see family and his Air Force buddies..
She was a faithful member of Grace United Church of Christ, Culver, enjoyed her flowers and simply sitting and looking out at
the lake. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends..
Sue is survived by her children: Lori Bendy of Indianapolis, IN, James (Susan) Bendy of South Bend, IN, Thomas (Wendi)
Bendy of Culver, IN and Daniel J Bendy of Plainfield, IN; grandchildren: Jennifer (Justin) Wulf, Madeline, Joshua, Erin, Emily,
Seth, Mitchell, and Ella Bendy; and great-grandchild Langley. .
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Larry Geiselman, and her husband David..
There will be a brief time to visit with the family on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 12:30 - 1:00PM at the Culver Masonic
Cemetery, where a graveside service will be held at 1:00pm. A luncheon will follow at Grace United Church of Christ, Culver.
