    Col. Kitts Assigned to Alabama Post -
      Lt. Col. Isaac L. Kitts, army artillery instructor at the Academy for the past three years, has seen transferred by the War Dept. from the P.M.S. & T. staff here and assigned to the headquarters replacement and school command at Birmingham, Ala.

      Col Kitts will leave for his new post September 1.

      ...Col. Isaac L. Kitts has been named to the staff and will direct the Department of Horsemanship in the Black Horse Troop.

      Well known locally, Col. Kitts served on the army staff here from 1939 through 1942. He is well qualified for his new post, being recognized nationally as an outstanding horseman. He is an enthusiastic polo player, point to point rider, and a jump and dressage expert. He was a member of the United States Olympic Equestrian team in 1932 and 1936.

      On Sept. 23, 1946. after 29 years service he was retired from the regular army. He is a veteran of both World Wars I and II. In World War II he served as chief of staff in the Chinese Combat Command and the Shanghai Base Command in China. He was awarded the Legion of Merit and several other decorations for outstanding service.

    Among The Acasem Faculty
      Col. and Mrs. Isaac Kitts arrived in Culver from Evanston, Ill., this past week to make their home.

      Col. Kitts has been appointed to the C. M. A. staff where he will be director of horsemanship in the Black Horse Troop and will assist with religious activities.

      Retired from the Army in 1946. Col. Kitts served on the PMS&T staff at Culver from 1939 to 1942.

      He is an internationally recognized horseman.

      While still in the army he passed examinations for the Episcopal ministry and was ordained deacon at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. in June, 1939, and was ordained priest in St. Thomas church, Plymouth, Ind., in June, 1942, by the late Bishop Campbell Grey.

      Col. and Mrs. Kitts are living in the Noble house near Maxinkuckee Inn.

      Their son, John S. Kitts, is a first classman in the corps of cadets. -- Citizen Wed, Sep 08, 1948

    COL. KITTS BURIED IN ARLINGTON CEMETERY

    Funeral services for the Reverend Colonel Isaac Leonard Kitts were held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Plymouth. Saturday.

    The Right Reverend Reginald Mallett. D.D.. T.D., of the Diocese, officiated, assisted by the Reverend William C. R. Sheridan

    . Because of Holy Week, the Requiem was postponed until Tuesday, April 14.

    Pall bearers were Colonel Charles F. McKinney, Captain Robert Boltom, Lieutenant Colonel C. A. Whitney, Major William Strow. Major L. J. Stone, and Lieutenant J. P Feeley. Honorary pallbearers included Colonel W. E. Gregory, Colonel Robert Rossow, Colonel A. R. Elliott, Colonel G. L. Miller. Dr. M. D. Baker, Cadet David Shuler representing the Academy varsity polo team, and many of Colonel friends from the Chicago area.

    The body was taken to Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. on Monday afternoon for interment.

    Capt. Alfred Kitts, son of Col. and M- 3. Kitts, who arrived here by plane from Germany just before his father's death, accompanied the body to Washington.

    Culver Legionnaires and members of the V.F.W. formed the escort unit which assembled at the Easterday Funeral Home on Monday to go to Plymouth to place the body on the train. Those in the group were W. R. Easterday, Col. J. W. Henderson, Col. H. V. Davis, Maj. Martin Lebel, Col. Kemp Moore, Ted Strang, Joe Morrison, and James Bechtel. Others in the cortege were Capt. Alfred 3. Lewis, Col. C. F. McKinney, Col. R. L. Dalferes, Capt. Robert Bolton, Maj. Q. C. Atkinson, Maj. Lewis Stone, Capt. Robert Gray, Lt. Robert Feeley, and Maj. William Strow.

    Colonel Kitts was buried with full military honors on the seventh of April at Arlington National Cemetery at Arlington, Virginia.

    Services were conducted by the Chief of Army Chaplains, General Luther B. Miller. Pall bearers a were Lieutenant General Harold R. Bull, Brigadier General Frank Dorn, Colonel B. F. Hoge, Colonel C. C. Jadwin, Colonel A. L. Shreve. and Colonel T. H. Davies. Honorary pall bearers were many of Col Kitts' army friends living in Washington.

    Col. Kitts passed away at his home last Wednesday following a long illness.
