Gary P. Dillion  

Gary Paul 'Doc' Dillon is a native Hoosier born 05/16/1943 South Bend, St. Joseph, Indiana and was raised in Culver , Marshall, Indiana on the family homestead farm on St. Rd. 17 just north of the Culver City limits.

The son of Arthur Judson and Dollis (Zechiel) Dillon. His father was a farmer, school teacher and high school principla, and his mother was a bookkeeper.

Gary attended the Culver school graduating from Culver High School. BA, Wabash College, 1968; Tau Chapter of Beta Theta Pi. Md Indiana University School of Medicine, 1972. Following an internship at Methodist Hospital he did his dematology residency at I.U. finishing in 1976. Following residency he was in private practice from 1976 to 1989, he worked with Dr. William Lentz, establishing Fort Wayne Dermatology, Inc. in 1989 and after retiring from private practice in 2004, he joined the faculty at IU as Clinical professor of dermatology-IU School of Medicine for 5 years. Physician, Fort Wayne Dermatology, 1989-2002-?

Gary works part time, overseeing a dermatology resident clinic at Regenstrief every week. He enjoys teaching, and the residents appreciate his many "pearls" obtained from practicing for more than 30 years.

Gary has had a long interest in public service, which began as his serving on his local school board Whitley County Consolidated, 1991-1998 in Columbia City for 8 years: as a member for 3 years & president for 5 years and then on the Whitley County Health Department for five years: 3 years as a member and 2 years as president.

Gary successfully ran for the state representative for the legislature in 1998 as a Republican for District 50 representing Huntington and Whitley and was re-elected in 2000; serving 1998-2002.
2000 alumni of the the Bowhay Institute a leadership training program designed exclusively for Midwestern legislators.

He then successfully ran for the Indiana State Senate in 2002 for disstrict 17 representing Allen, Grant, Huntington, Kosciusko, Wabash, Whitley. He is active and serves on the Commission for Social Status of Black Males; Public Health, Pension & Labor, Natural Resources, and Homeland Security subcommittess.

On November 7, 2006, Republican Gary Dillon won re-election to the Indiana State Senate District 17. He ran unopposed receiving 25,585 votes

Indiana State Senate District 17 2002–2010; Gary did not run for re-election to the 15th District seat in the Indiana State Senate in 2010.

Gary is married to Ann DeKruyter who he met when he turned in a late paper for a psychology class at Wabash College (Ann worked fro his professor). They have been married for 36 years. They have one daughter, Meg; and three sons, David, Matt, Travis, and four grandchildren.

When not invovled in his public service commitments either at the State Senate or at Regeenstrief, Gary enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, reading and hiking.

He is Presbyterian in faith and a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church.

He served in the Indiana Air National Guard, 1964-1970.

Other professional Experience are: volunteer Physician/Dermatology Consultant; Mathew 25 Free Clinic, 1978-present; "Ask the Physician" Radio Show; Past Hospice Medical Director, Whitley County; Past President/Member, Whitley County Memorial Hospital Staff and also the Indiana Dermatological Society.

Orginzations he belongs to or have are: Columbia City Rotary Club; Columbia City Chamber of Commerce; Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce; Gideons; Kiwanis Masonic Lodge;Scottish Rite; Member, Shrine Gideons.

Politcally he is Vice-chair, National Conference of State Legislators and National Standing Committee on Health. Various commitees he has served on during his poitical career are: Appropriations, Ranking Member Energy & Environmental Affairs, Ethics, Chair Tax & Fiscal Policy, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development Education.
