They had:
Virginia Sparling married Bob Doyle
Linda Barnes Sparling
Linda Barnes Boswell, born January 8, 1947, passed away in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, in the early hours of August 15, 2022.
Linda lived a very fun, full, and healthy life until the end.
Her children would like to extend tremendous gratitude to her sister, Virginia Doyle, and her husband, Jim Boswell, for their love and '
accompaniment in her retirement, especially during her final hours. They would also like to extend great praise to the doctors, nurses,
and staff at Halifax Regional Hospital for their extraordinary care for Linda.
Linda was born in Greensboro, North Carolina to Floyd and Marjorie Sparling. Linda often shared fond memories of her time growing up
on Friendly Road in Greensboro. From an early age, Linda loved all animals, and was especially fond of the horses at her family property.
It was during her childhood years that Linda also developed a great love for basketball. She was a frequent attendee at Reynolds
Coliseum to cheer on her beloved Wolfpack representing North Carolina State University. Her love for animals and basketball continued
throughout her life. Linda adopted more animals along the way than one could count. More than those who knew her cared to count.
Her love for basketball and sports in general was something Linda would enjoy throughout her life until the very end. She always kept a
warm spot in her heart for NC State and later The Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
During high school Linda moved to Culver, Indiana and would graduate from Culver High School in 1965. Although there was somewhat
of a culture shock moving from a city in the South to a small lake community in the North, Linda had no problems making friends. This
was certainly a strength that she would carry on throughout her life. Linda immensely enjoyed her time on and around Lake Maxinkuckee.
After high school Linda attended school in Southern Indiana, and then returned to Culver and married Larry Brockey. In their union, they
produced four children together. Ashley (Doug, Indianapolis), Larry II (Dawn, Culver), Brian (South Bend), and Chrissy (Brett, Rochester).
Ashley and Doug’s children, Devin and Olivia, and Larry and Dawn’s children, Zach, Mia, and Brady were cherished by Linda. She was
extremely proud of the accomplishments of her children and will be embracing the future accomplishments of her grandchildren from above
as well.
In 2002 Linda reunited with her high school sweetheart and married Jim Boswell. Jim and Linda enjoyed their time in Culver for a few years
and then decided to return to her home state of North Carolina where they could enjoy the weather and their retirement years. In retrospect,
this would prove to be a wise decision. They enjoyed their property in Littleton and the increased time they were able to spend outside
together. They loved their pool and they loved their yearly trips to Destin, Florida. They truly enjoyed their time together.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Marjorie Sparling (Culver), and a sister Suzanne Green (Greensboro). She is survived
by sister Virginia Doyle (Knightdale, NC), her four children, and five grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Mount Hope Funeral Home in Logansport, Indiana on September 24th. Visitation will be from 10:00 until
12:00 and services will follow shortly after. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family would prefer that a small contribution be made to a
local animal shelter in Linda’s name
