Martin Bligh Passes Away After Stroke.

Prominent Local Citizen Dies At Home Here Yesterday

Martin J. Bligh, 68, prominent Logansport man, died yestreday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the residence, 1209 High Street, the result of a stroke of apoplexy suffered Jan 22. His condition had been critical since Tuesday

He is survived by the widow Mrs. Catherine Bligh; two daughters: Mrs. R. A. Griswald of Cleveland, O. and Mrs. N. K. Van Ostel of CHicago; three sons: Edger, Glendale, Calif., Thomas and George of this city; three brothers: Roger Bligh of New York City, James and John in Ireland; and two sisters: Mrs. J. J. White of Coaitola, Cal, and Mary Bligh in Irleand.

Funeral Monday

Funeral services will be conducted Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the St. Joseph Catholic Church, by the Rev. Father Michael Aichinger.

Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery.

Mr. Blugh was born in Castle Keg., Ireland, On Nov. 4, 1851, coming to America when he was 14 years old.

For 35 years until 1918, he was engaged in the wholesale liquor business and operated a lumber yard.

He, then moved to Rochester in order to be nearer to his farming interests, which, which until March 1925, occupied his attention. He then moved to this city.

Mr Bligh was a keen business man very resourceful, and a staunch friend.

For years he was a power in the Republican party of Cass County.

When reverses overtook him he did not show it in his demeanor and his friends believed that if his health had not been bad he would hace over come his financial difficulties before he died.

The couple left Logansport Wenesday night.

The mother of the bride, it is said, objected to the union and she was greatly surprised yesterday morning, upon receipt of a letter from her daughter, worded as follows
Mother - We have gone to Cincinnati. DO nt be alarmed. Will return in a few days. - Katie.
The marriage occured at the Palace hotel, and today's Enquirer gives the birdes address at No. 109 Fulton Avenue, Cincinnati.

The groom obtained a divorce from his first wife, who is now in Europe, about three months ago.

While the affair bears the favor of an elopement, the bride's father is said to have given his consent to the union, and had been informed of the time and place of the wedding.

Mrs. Katherine Bligh, 85, , widows of Nartin Bligh and a resident here most of her life, died t 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pewee Valley hospital in Louisville, Ky. SHe had been ill since February, 1958.

The body will arrive in Logansport Friday morning and will be taken to the Kroger Funeral Home.

Funeral serivces will be held at 9:30 a.m. that norning at St. Joseph's church, Msgr. Maurice Foley officiating and burial will be in St Vincent's cemetery.

Born in this city March 4, 1875, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Paul and Catherine Baker Eisero.

Her husband, Martin, died April 5, 1929.

Survivors children are three sons and two daughters Thomas, Ypsilanti, Michigamn.; Edger, Glendale, Calif.; George W., Mrs Arnold Griswold, Louisville, Ky.; Mrs. N. K. Van Ostel, Ypsilanti, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. One niece, Mrs. WIlliam Wiler , resides in this city. - Logansport Pharos Tribune Febuary 16, 1961
