BRADENTON, Fla. — Glenn S. Lemler, 91, died Sept. 4, 2010.
Born in Bourbon, he graduated from Bourbon High School in Indiana.
While in high school he was a three-year varsity basketball player.
He attended Manchester College, graduated from the University of
Wisconsin School of Banking and completed O. C. S. with the Corps
of Engineers at Fort Belvoir, Va.
He moved to San Antonio in 1986 from Culver, Ind.
He was a World War II Combat Veteran for four-and-a-half years, a
captain with the 804th Aviation Corps of Engineers assigned to the
7th Air Force, serving in the Central Pacific, Saipan, and in the
Makin Island. He received numerous military awards. He was a member
of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, past Commander of the Bourbon
American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Reserve Officers
Association.
He worked at the First State Bank of Bourbon for more than 40 years as
a cashier, executive vice president, and chairman of the board. He was
a member of the Indiana B ankers Association, the American Bankers
Association, and the Independent Bankers Association.
He was also an independent insurance agent and was awarded for 25 years
as an outstanding agent for the Insurance Company of North America.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Culver, where he served
as church secretary and trustee, a member of Concordia Lutheran Church
of San Antonio, and of Hope Lutheran Church of Bradenton.
He was a member of Parkview Hospital Board, the Marshall County Tax
Adjustment Board, charter member of Marshall County Realtors Association,
Marshall County Insurance Agents. He was organizer and director of the
Bourbon Industrial Development Corporation, 25-year member of the Lions
Club; was the director of Plymouth Country Club, and past president and
director of the Maxinkuckee Lake Association. He also served as director
of the Marshall County Red Cross, and was the representative for the
Bourbon Township Salvation Army.
He served on the board of Stephens College, Mo. Fathers Association and in
San Antonio, was a member of the Northern Hills Country Club.
He was appointed by Governor Otis Bowen to be a member of the “Sagamore of
the Wabash” for being distinguished by his Humanity in Living, Inspiration
in Leadership and Loyalty in Friendship.
Glenn was devoted to his wife of 63 years, Marcella; daughter, Mary Joe
Lemler of Los Angeles, alif.; sons, David of Plymouth; Vincent (Jennifer) of
Bradenton; two half-brothers, Don and Robert; five grandchildren; and many
other family members around the country.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen; mother, Erma Stewart Lemler;
and father, Harry I. Lemler.
Interment with military honors will be at Culver.

The history of Marshall county would not be complete without including the
lemlers, for there roots are planted deeply into Bourbon soil.
A little chap named Stephen Lemlar (the name was later spelled Lemler) left Germany
with his parents to arrive in New York. From there the family travelled westward to
Bourbon, Stephen later became Glenn's great-grandfather.
George was one of seven children born to Stephen and Magdelena. George and Mary
Lemler had five children. Mary was the daughter of Gideon and Margaret Miller of Bourbon,
who were of Swiss descent. Geroge and Mary's son Harry I, married Erma Stewart. Erma
was the daughter of WIlliam and Code Stewart of Bourbon, who were of Scottich, ENglish
and German descent.
Harry and Erma had one son, Glenn Stewart. Glenn lived 51 years in Bourbon and then
moved to Lake Maxinkuckee, Culver.
After graduating in 1937 from Bourbon High School, Glenn Attended Manchester College,
until he was aske to work the the First State Bank of Bourbon. Glenn served on active duty
four and one-half years in World War II with the Army Corps of EnNgineers in the Central
Pacific. He completed Officers Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia and was separated
September 1945, attaining the rank of Captain.
He returned to Bourbon and banking. He attended the University of Wisconsin School of
Banking. He served the bank over 40 years, first as clerk, then cashier, vice president and
chairman of the board. He held this position until his retirement in 1985.
Glenn was also a partner in the Bourbon Insurance Agency during this time.
Glen and I met while I worked at the court house. We were married in 1947, and I then
moved to Bourbon where we raised out family.
The children graduated from Culver Military Academy. David attended Franklin College and
Asbury College; Mary Jo, Stephens College and is a 1979 graduate of Southern Methodist
University; while Vincent is a 1984 graduate of Texas Christain University. Vincent and his
wife live in San Antonio, Texas; Mary Jo and her husband in Chicago, Illionois; and David
in Culver.
Glenn is a memeber of Trinity Lutheran Church and served as trustee and secretary. He is a
Past commander of the Bourbon American Legion, member of the Veterans of Goriegn Wars,
the Reserve Officers Association and the Indiana Bankers, Independent Bankers, the
American Bankers Associqations, and a member of the Marshall County Insurance Agents, and
was a director of the Bourbon Industrial Development Corporation, 25 year member of the
Lions CLub; director two terms for the Plymouth County Club; past President and Director
of the Maxinkuckee Lake Association; past Director of the Marshall County Red Cross and was
the Bourbon Township representative for the Salvation Army, member of the Masonic Lodge,
Scottish Rite, Mizpah Temple and the Loyal Order of the Moose. For many years he served on the
Marshall County Taz Adjustment Board; he clerked 4-H sales at the Argos Farigrounds, financed
cattle for the 4-H youth and in 1979 was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Bowen.
Marcella is alos a member and secretary of the Culver Library; past chairman and also a board
memeber of the Marshall county Historical Society; past president and irector of the Culver
Military Academy's Mothers Association, past president and vice president of Kappa Kappa
Kappa sorority, past secretary and director of the Maxkinkuckee Lake Association; and a
member of the Indiana Univesity Alumni Assocoiation. She taught high schoool at Bremen,
Bourbon and Culver and has been active in other serivce and social organizations. Glen and
Marcella enjoy traveling and have traveled extensively world wide - Marcella Koebke Lemler. ---
