Farther east, Mr. Willis H. Vajen has a good well which flows nineteen feet above the surface
of the lake. This bore showed forty feet of continuous clay, followed by ten feet of sand.

1904 Apr 21 - Geo, B. Yandes of Indianapolis , has purchased the Willis Vajen
cottage and will have it remodeled and refurnished so it will be one of the finest
around the lake
1904 - May 5 - Geo. Yandes, of Indianapolis, arrived at the lake Wednesday. He
recently bought, the Willis Vajen cottage and will have it remodled before the

1907 - Sep 19 - G. B. Yandes is pitting in a concrete breakwater at the Powwow

1908 - Jan 16 - M. R. Cline has the contract for building an addition to, and repairing
the Yandes-Robinson Cottage
1909 - Jun 17 - Contractor Cline is making som improvements at the Powwow for Mr. Yandes
1910 - Sep 10 - Misses Anna and Mary Robinson have left the lake for the season. Mrss Josephine
Robinson and her uncle, George Yandes wil close the Powwod on the 7th of next month and return
to the city for the winter
1919 - Apr 30 - The George B. Yandes cottage has been sold by the heirs, Misses Robinson, to
an Indianapolis man named Kettles. It is understood that the Misses Robinson will not desert
the lake as a summer home, but will buy property and put up a smaller cottage
1919 - Jul 2 - Mr. and Mrs. John Kittle of Indianapolis with their little son cams to
the lake Sunday and will spen the season at the PowWow, which Mr. Kittle this spring
pruchased of the Misses Robinson. Mrs. Rena Kittle had been at the cottage for several
weeks putting it in order and overseeing renovations, and improvements. Her daughter
florence an tow grandchildren have been here with her.
1919 - Jul 13 - Mr. and Mrs John Kittle have named the cottage (formerly known as the Pow Wow),
which they purchased this year "The Marigolds". Mrs. Kittle's marigolds are famous among all of
Indianapolis friends and she will specialize in that brilliant and pungent blossom at her new
summer home. The cottage has been re-decorated, plumbing installed and some additions made to
the furnishings, making it a most desirable summer home.

1928 - May 2 - Changes in Ownership - Of Two East Side Cottages
Two more cottage on the East Side of Lake Maxinkuckee had changed hands with
indications of more improvements and increased values
Mr. and Mrs. John Sloane Kittle of Indianapolis, have purchased the property north
of the bungalow which they have owned the past ten years and which they are now
selling to Mr. Carl Wallerich, Crysler distributor, also of Indianapolis
Mr and Mrs. Wallerich rented a cottage on the lake last summer and were so delighted
that they decided to buy a cottage and chose the Kittle cottage.
No consideration was stated in the transfer but it is understood that a peak price was
paid for the Kittle property, indicating the ever increasing values of the East Side
lake sites.
Mr. and Mrs Kittle state that they intend to erect a new two-story cottage on their new
site at a later date, but will use the present structure this summer after a few ]
necessary changes.

As one sees there is not much change in the Kittle property of 1922 & 2016 in
yellow; greatest change is from 1908 to 1922 in this area
1930-1952 - John S. Kittle ("Fairwinds" East Side; PH:200) [John Sloane Kittle]
1930 - Jul 2 - Mrs. and Mrs. John Sloane Kittle will arive Saturday to spend the rest
of the summer at their cottage, The Maridolgs, on the East SIde of the lake
1931 - Sep 23 - Mrs John Sloane Kittle and family have returned to their home in
Indianapolis but will return to their cottahe, the Marigolds, in October to enjoy
the many pleasures which that month offers The Kittles will also build a new cottage
in place of their guest cottage, "Fairwinds"
1932 - July 12 - Mrs. John Sloane Kittle has come from Indianapolis to her new summer
home "Fairwinds" to spend the season

Vonnegut at "Hollyhocks" wile some work was being done at the Kittle cottage "Fariwinds"

"Fairwinds" summer home of Mr. and Mrs. John Sloane Kittle
