Mr. CLarence L Baker started in the whlesale business plumbing and heating supply
business after the flood of March 1913 {Founded Feb 15 1913} in the Lynas Building
at 521 Erie Ave., speacliizing in plumbing and heating speciality items. As the years
profressed, he added the major items of plumbing fistures, brass goods, b eating
boilers, pipe fittings, and valves, later adding warm air furnaces with furnance pipe
fitting and registers. The business grew to such proportions the original quarters
were to small and a new modern warehouse and office was built {in 1923} at
701-711 Erie Av.e It is located on a sput of the Wabash railway, from which many
carloads of supplies are unloaded each month.
In 1949 an addition was built to the original building, nearly doubling the floor space. All
material is unloaded and loaded with modern handling equipment.
At the start of World War II, as extensive line of mill and factory supplies were added and at
present is a large part of the business. Baker's also supply Kitchen cabinets, built in overns,
dishwashers, and disposers in addition to plumbing fistures.
Operating in 51 counties in Indiana and 12 in Illionios, the compnat serves the plumbing and heating
contractors and manufacturers. Eight salesmen cover the territory and delivery to most points is
by the firm's own semi-trailers on scheduled runs. The beautiful air conditioned showroom is for the
use of customers and the general public in making selections of fistures for their proposed
bathrooms or kitchens A complete engineeering service for all types of heating and air conditioning
jobs is maintained ofr architects, enginers and contractors.
The company was organized in 1913 with J. I. Flanegin, president, A. N. Baker, vice-president and
C. L. Baker, secretary-treasurer... and with five employees. At present there are firty-eight employess
ho line in Logansport and Cass county the majority of whom are property owners.
Mr. C. L. Baker, the present president of the company moved to Tuscon, Arizona, in 1943 for
health reasons. He still resides there with his wife and daughter. he business is conducted by his
two shons John and Thomas Baker.

1957 - May 14 - Baker - FInal Rites for Clarence L Baker, 81, will be conducted at the Kroeger
Chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rt. Rev. Magr John P. Schall officiating. Burial wiil be made
in Mr. Hope cemetery. Friends may call at the Chapel after noon Wedensday.

Mrs Baker, Long Point Cottager, Passes Away.
Suffering a cerebral hemorrhafe, Mrs. Blancher Flanegin Baker, wife of Clarence L. Baker of
the Baker Specialty and SUpply company of Logansport, and well known Long Point
cottagers, died at her home 516 West Market street, Sunday evening. She apparently
had been in good health
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John T. FLanegin and was born in ohio.
Surviviors include the husband, two daughters Blanche at home and ALice who has been
atteneding school in Fort Wayne; three sons: John and Thomas F. of Logansport and Fred
of EL Paso, Texas; and two brothers Thomas J. and Lorin A. Flanegin both of Logansport.
Funeral Services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. O. K. Malone
pastor of the Westside Presnbyterian church, in charge.
Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery at Logansport.
