L. E. Waterman Succumbs at 76, Rites Arranged

A heart attack took the life last night of Lovell E> WAterman, active in real estate development here for more than 40 years.

Waterman who was 76, died at St. Anthony Hospital where he had bee admitted two weeks aso.

His residence was at 40 South Twenty-first street.

A native of Danville, Ill, he came to Terre Haute in 1905 as a staff member of the Terre Haute Star, spent a year with the Indianapolis Star and returned here, serving as editor and later adertising manager of the Star until 1912

waterman later developed the Deming Land COmpany which in addition to downtown real estate holdings created the several Deming subdivisions in the south east part of Terre Haute and included the Deming Woods development.

He was responsible for the Ohoio boulvard properties through the Deming subdivions to Fruitridge avenue as a part of the Deming Land Company's original development.

Real Estate Holdings

In his later career he was holder of much of the real estate on the south side of Wabash avenue from Twenty-fifth street to Fruitridge avenue.

During his career, waterman had been a directoer of the former First National Bank, president of the Chamber of Commerce and a director of theCOuntry CLub of Terre Haute.

Hios faternal allfiliations included Euclid Lodge 573, F&AM; Zorah Shrine, Terre Haute Valley of the Scottish Rite and the Elks Lodge No. 86.

He is survived by the widow Helen M; a son Demas, general manager of Hotel Deming; two daughters Mrs. Charles E. Meig of Scottsdale, Ariz and Mrs. Robert O. Bayfield of Indinapols; two sisters Mrs. Amy Colson and Mrs Adelaide Skinner both of Houston, Tax. and six grandchildren

Services will be held at the Callahan Funeral Home at 3 o'clock Wednseday afternoon with Rev. Thomas Mabley officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Guy Kornblum, Lenhardt Bauer, Thomas Patrick John B. Hunter, ROss Woodbury and George Ranes.
