John L.Ketcham of Indianapolis who died last week was a well known
member of the Maxinkuckee summer colony, who spent, with his family,
much time at his summer home on the East side.
He was identified with the large manufacturing interests of Indianapolis
and a prominent member of the National Founders Association. He was 72

Arrangements for the funeral of John L. Ketcham, 72 years old, who
died yesterday at his home, 578 Middle Drive, Woodruff Place, will
be deterred until word is received from his widow, Mrs. Lilla
McDOnald Ketcham, who is in Flordia.
A sudden attack of heart disease caused Mr. Ketcham's death
Mr. Ketcham was born in Indianapolis Jan. 3, 1844.
He served in the civil war in the Sevenieth Indiana Volunteers
He attended Wabash College for severalyears and later received his
degree in 1869. when he was graduated from Williams College.
For many years Mr. Ietcham was a director of the Indianapolis Water
Company and secretary and treasurer for the Brown-Ketcham Iron Works.
He was the organoizer of the Indianapolis branch of the National Metal
Trades Assocoiation and for four years served on the executive committee
of the association. The Employers' Association of Indianapolis was
founded by h im and from 1905 6o 191112 Mr. Ketcham acted as its president

Mr. Ketcham was a prominent member of the National FOunders' Association,
and acted as chairman of the Fourth DIstrict committee which had jurisdiction
over Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia.
He was also president of the local branch of the Manufacturers' Club and
was on the Indiana Industrial Education Commission.
He was the son of John L. Ketham, a prominent lawyer of Indiana and a grandson
of Samuel Merrill, tresurer of the state, president of the State Bank and of
the Madison and Indianapolis Railroad.
Mr. Ketcham was one of a large family, his brothers and sisters survive him are:
William A. Ketcham, Mrs. Thomas E. Hibbard, Frank M. Ketcham, and Edwin H.
Ketcham of Indianapols; the Rev. Henry Ketcham of South Dakota; and Miss SUsan
M. Ketcham of New York.
Charles W. Moores, who was a lifelong friend of Mr. Ketcham paid the following
tribute to him last evening:
Mr. Ketcham took a keen interest in the problems of the day", said Charles
W. Moore, a lifelonf friend of Mr.Ketcham. "He was ever a helper in the
great movement for industrail education in the public schools. Into whatever
he undertook he threw a unsual amoutn of his own personality. He was
half=hearted in nothing. WHat he believed he declared with an almost
passionate positiveness."
Mr. Ketcham was a member of the Fourth Presbyterian Church, the Major RObert
Anderson Post, G.A.R. and the Loyal Legion
Besides the widow and brothers and sisters he is survived by five sons:
David McDOnald, Ralph, Arthur, WIlliam and Capt. John L. Ketcham; and three
daughters: Mrs. Priscilla Ketcham Fell of Detriot, Mich, and Eleanor and

Mrs. J. L. Ketcham, for many years a resident of Indianapolis, died
yesterday in Orlando, Fla., following a short illness
Funeral services will be held a 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the
residence of Mrs. W> A. Ketcham, 4133 North Capitol avenue and burial
will be private in Crown Hill cemetery
Mrs. Ketcham had been in ill health for several years, by had been
seriously ill only several days.
The body will be brought to Indianapolis by Ralph Ketcham of New York
and Miss Betty Ketcham of Indianapolis, children of Mrs. Ketcham.
Mrs. Ketcham was the widow of J. L. Ketcham, who was a member of the firm

Miss ELizabeth Ketcham, age sixty-five, died SUnday after an illness of
several years.
She was born in Indianapolis Noveber 17, 1874, the daughter of John
Lewis and Lilla Ketcham.
Wilth exception of several years as a resident of Culver, she had spent
most of her life here.
She had been an active member of Crist Episcopal church.
AMong survivors is a sister: Mrs. Priscilla Fell
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the home of a
cousin, Dr. Jane M., Ketcham 3906 RUckle Street, with burial in Crown
