      George H. Thayer Jr., Pioneer Cottager at South End of Lake Maxinkuckee Extolled by Plymouth Church.

      At a meeting of the vestry of St. Thomas Epicopal church, Plymouth, Ind., held in the evening of February 10, 1931, the following resolution was adopted:
        "WHEREAS, George H. Thayer, Jr., has been a member of the vestry of St. Thomas church, Plymouth Indiana, for more than thirty five years and has filled the position of senior warden for the last twenty years, and has also served prior to that as Clerk of the Vestery, superintendent of the Sunday school (several times) and as junior warden, and has been a member of the Sunday school and church for over sixty years, and,

        WHEREAS, his wise counsel, devoted Christian life and loyalty to the cause of our Lord and His church have left: deep and lasting impresion on this Parish and on this community and,

        WHEREAS, Mr. Thayer now feels, owing to physical infirmities, that he must retire from the active position of senior warden of this church and has so notified this vestry in writing, now therefore be it

        RESOLVED, by the vestry of St. Thomas Episcopal church in regular session assembled on this 10th day of February, 1931, that they, desiring to place on record their appreciation of the long and faithful service of their brother George H. Thayer, Jr., their love for him and their sorrow that he feels that he must give up active work, have regretfully accepted his resignation and have at this meeting elected him senior warden Emeritus of St. Thomas church. Be it further

        RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the records of this parish, a copy sent to our Brother and that the Rector be asked to read the same from the Chancel next Sunday."

      GEORGE THAYER JR. DIES AT PLYMOUTH
        Well Known Maxinkuckee Cottager of Pioneer Family. George H. Thayer Jr., died at his home in Plymouth Saturday at the age of 74 years. Although Mr. Thayer had been in poor health for many months, his death was a shock to his many friends. Mr. Thayer has been a summer cottager at Lake Maxinkuckee for many years, owning a cottage at the south end of the lake, which spot he dearly loved. Mr. Thayer was a member of one of the pioneer families of Marshall county. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry G. Thayer, deceased, and had lived all his life in Plymouth. Founded Plant. The Thayer family founded and operated the Plymouth Novelty Manufacturing Company, formerly located in the building now occupied by the Abrasive Mining & Manufacturing Company, on Pennsylvania avenue. The factory was the leading industry of the county for many years, employing hundreds of men and manufacturing many items. Mr. Thayer was a member of one of the first graduating classes of the Plymouth High school, and a graduate of Cornell University. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, having held nearly all the high offices in the various Masonic orders, including the Scottish Rite. He was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of Plymouth. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary L. Munson-Thayer, and one son, Paul, who lives in Milwaukee, Wis. Another son preceded Mr. Thayer in death. Mrs. William O. Young, of Mishawaka, is a sister. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Plymouth Episcopal church, Rev. Father Cordick officiating. Interment was in the Oak Hill cemetery. -- 31 Jan 1934 Culver Citizen


    Past secretary and general manager of the Indiana Novelty Manufacturing Company, which was founded by the Thayer family.

    Graduated from Plymouth High School in 1878, the fourth class to graduate from PHS.

    Graduated in 1883 from Cornell University.

    Often referred to as George Henry Thayer, Jr. although his father is Henry George Thayer. His grandfather is George H. Thayer.

    2 Edgar Munson Thayer Birth: Mar. 19, 1888 Death: Mar. 23, 1904 buried Oak Hill Cemetery Plymouth Marshall County Indiana
      Edgar Munson Thayer oldest son of Geo. H. and Mary Munson Thayer died Wednesday morning Marh 23. 1904 at 9:15 after an illness of nearl three years, aged 16 years and 4 day.

      He was born in Plymouth, Ind. March 19, 1888. His parents and one brother, Paul Munson They survie him.

      His long sufferings were patiently and bravely bourne and his noble christain character endeared him to all with whom he came in contact.

      He was a communicant of St. Thomas Episcopal church and was a devout and earnest christain and greatly enjoyed his church associations. He was thoroughly conscientious in all he did and has a high sense of honor and devotion to duty.

      During his long illness his thoughts centered much upon spitritual things and he passed away firn in th christain faith and a glorious immortality.

      Rev. W. S. Howard was with him and held services Tuesday and Wednesday at his bedside.

      His sorrowing parents, his grandmother and Rev. Howard were at his bedside when he passed awasy.

      His loveable nature attracted many friends who with a large circle of relatives showed him many kindness of which he was ver appreciative and which her returned in every way in his power.

      The funeral will take place Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at St Thomas EPiscopal church, Rev. W. S. Howard officiating.

      Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery - Plymouth Tribune -- Thursday, March 24, 1904, pg. 5
