Glenn WILSON, 85, 713 Fulton avenue, died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in Canterbury Manor nursing home. He had been in failing health three years.

He was born June 19, 1892 in Winamac to William and Mary HILL WILSON and he had lived in Rochester since 1938, moving here from Monterey. He was married June 21, 1911 in Winamac to Lera OVERMYER, who survives. He was president and manager of Wilson Coal and Grain company of Rochester, which has offices in Rochester, Bremen and Lakeville. He was a member of Maxinkuckee I.O.O.F. Lodge 373 at Culver for 55 years.

Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Lillian) LUDWIG and Mrs. Don (Glenda) SHOWLEY, both of R.R. 1, Rochester; two sons, Russell [WILSON], Rochester, and Robert [WILSON], Lakeville; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister, Mrs. Dessie WERNER, Monterey; a brother, Thomas [WILSON], Rochester, and nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were a grandson, a sister and a brother.

Glenn married Lera [Lyria] Overmyer-2135, daughter of Thomas Jeffferson Overmyer and Diana Miller , on 21 Jun 1911 in Winamac, P ulasli, Indiana. Lera was born 15 May 1893. She died 13 Aug 1981 and was buried in Rochester IOOF Cemetery.

Lera WILSON, 88, of 713 Fulton Ave., died at 5:30 a.m. today in Woodlawn Hospital where she had been a patient since Tuesday. She had been in failing health for a year.

She was born May 15, 1893 at Bass Lake to Tom and Diania MILLER OVERMYER. She had lived in Rochester since 1938 coming from Monterey. She married Glenn WILSON June 21, 1911 in Winamac. He died March 21, 1978. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Lillian) LUDWIG, Rochester; Mrs. Don (Glenda) SHOWLEY, Rochester; two sons, Russell WILSON, Rochester, and Robert WILSON, Lakeville; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel YELTON, Miami, Fla.; and Gladys DECK, Kansas City, Kan. Two sisters, a brother and a grandson preceded in death.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Foster & Good Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam CARLTON officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30-9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday. Memorials may be made to the Manitou Training Center.

3 Glenda Wilson
Mrs. Glenda W. Showley, 82, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 10:02 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at her residence.

Glenda Wilson was born on March 13, 1936, in Pulaski County near Monterey. She was a cherished daughter of Glenn and Lera Overmyer Wilson.

Growing up, she shared her childhood with a sister, Lillian, and two brothers, Russell and Robert.

With great Zebra pride in 1954, Glenda graduated from Rochester High School earning the distinction of being valedictorian of her class.

Later that summer, on Aug. 21, Glenda married the love of her life, Mr. Donald E. Showley, at Rochester’s Grace United Methodist Church. Together they shared over 64 years of life’s adventures. From their union came three wonderful children, Debbie, Dennis and Dan. The family tree continued to grow with five grandchildren and eight great-granddaughters.

A devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church for over 60 years, Glenda was a member of the United Methodist Women and Bible study groups.

Don and Glenda enjoyed the winter’s warmth near Estero, Fla. She became the social director for circle activities with her Florida friends. Glenda enjoyed competitive bridge and other card games along with the challenging board game Mahjong.

A vibrant farmer’s wife, Glenda oversaw the milking operation in the early years and ran the Showley farm’s office throughout her agricultural career. She cooked and baked a feast for those assisting with their farming usually during the harvest or planting seasons. A talented seamstress, Glenda made many Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. Don and Glenda annually planted and maintained a large garden. The fall brought on a bountiful harvest and she canned and froze the delicious produce for winters use for her family. Glenda annually planted beautiful flower gardens around her home to add color accenting the landscape. She also was fond of the domestic backyard birds, feeding them and observing their activities. She was the proud owner of a unique collection of owls.

As the matriarch of the Showley family, Grandma Glenda was proud to oversee four generations. She was courtside for athletic activities, concerts and everything that involved her grandchildren and later the great-grands, Grandma Glenda looked forward to hosting holiday events and special family celebrations. She was quite at home at her kitchen command post making requested dinners and always including desserts. She was best remembered for her hot steaming cinnamon rolls from the oven or delicious pies.

Glenda is lovingly remembered by her husband Don; a daughter, Deborah Barts and husband Monty; a son, Daniel Showley and companion Leslie Strem, all of Rochester; five grandchildren, Gretchen Mensch and husband Tyler of Noblesville, Landon Barts and wife Andrea, J.D. Showley and wife Morgan, Brantlyn Showley and wife Janet, and Peyton Showley; eight great-granddaughters, a trio of Mensch’s Ella, Halle and Camille, Lera Barts, the Showley duo Ireland and Scarlett and Teagan Showley who will welcome her little sister Mara in early September, all from Rochester; and her canine companion Wrigley the Shih Tzu.

Donald E. Showley, 87, Rochester was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 4:20 AM on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Wynnfield Crossing of Rochester.

On June 1, 1934 Donald Edward was born in Flint, Michigan to Ralph Edward and Hazel Viola Walker Showley.

Proudly he graduated with the Class of 1952 from Grass Creek High School. As a Panther, he played basketball and participated in track, throwing the shot put.

Don and Glenda Wilson were married on August 21, 1954 at Rochester's Grace United Methodist Church. Together they shared over 64 years of life's adventures. From their union came three wonderful children: Debbie, Dennis and Dan. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

In the early years Don gained his start in farming with the help of his in laws, Glenn and Lera Wilson.

Showley Farms evolved over the years that now include four generations, with Don at the helm. Their crops include soybeans and corn. Don's happy place each fall was being seated on board his New Holland combine cutting the beans.

A servant to his community Don served on several boards including the Rochester Community School board, Indiana State REMC board and the board of directors of the 1st National Bank. His memberships include Grace United Methodist Church, Manitou Moose Lodge #1107, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, all of Rochester, and the Lincoln Masonic Lodge #523 of Macy.

To relax Don enjoyed meeting his buddies for a game of tennis and more recently pickle ball. He and Glenda wintered in Florida for 36 years. While in Florida he enjoyed fishing the intercoastal waterways and catching a few spring training games. Don also grew orchids while in the sunshine state. At home he followed Big Ten Sports especially Purdue and IU. He was always tuned in to the Chicago Cubs to watch their progress.

Left to cherish Don's memory are a daughter, Debbie Barts and husband Monty; a son, Dan Showley and fiance' Leslie Strem, all of Rochester; five grandchildren: Gretchen Mensch and husband Tyler of Noblesville, Landon Barts and wife Andrea, JD Showley and wife Morgan, Brantlyn Showley and wife Janet all of Rochester and Peyton Showley and fiancée Heather Walker of College Station Texas; 11 great-grandchildren: a trio of Mensch's, Ella, Halle, Camille; Lera and Marley Barts; the Showley trio: Ireland, Scarlett and Forrest; Teagan, Mara and Hawkins Showley, all from Rochester; a sister, Linda Hoff and husband Rod of Kewanna; a brother, Robert Showley and wife Linda of Kewanna; a special neighbor, Bob Macy, several nieces and nephews; and his treasured canine companion Wrigley, a silver Shih Zhu.

Preceding Don in death are his parents, wife, infant son Dennis E. Showley on May 16, 1960, sister Alice Lee Carr, a special nephew Larry Carr.

Mrs. Ludwig died at 1:49 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn Hospital. She was born Jan. 4, 1912 in Monterey to Glen and Lera OVERMYER WILSON and had lived most of her life in this area. She was married May 20, 1933 in Valparaiso to Ralph R. LUDWIG, who died June 19, 1979. She was a member of the former Olive Branch United Methodist Church, and had been attending the Fulton United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and the Women's Christian Temperance Union.

Surviving are a daughter, Lera REINHOLT, Syracuse; two sons, Martin A. [LUDWIG], Dade City, Fla, and Richard W. Lilian married Ralph Ludwig son of John Phillip Ludwig and Lucinda Elizabeth POPEJOY Ralph was born 5 Nov 1906. He died 19 Jun 1979.
Ralph R. LUDWIG, 72, R.R. 1, Rochester, died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday at South Bend St. Joseph hospital following a three-month illness.

He was born Nov. 5, 1906 in Monterey to John and Lucinda POPEJOY LUDWIG and had lived in Fulton county most of his life.

He was married May 20, 1933 in Valparaiso to Lillian P. WILSON, who survives.

Mr. Ludwig was the retired operator of the B & L Milling company, Mexico, and prior to that he been associated with Wilson Corn company, Rochester.

He was a member of the Olive Branch United Methodist church.

Surviving with the wife are a daughter, Mrs. James (Lena) REINHOLT, Warsaw; two sons, Martin [LUDWIG], Tampa, Fla., and Richard [LUDWIG], Rochester; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Mrs. Henry (Lily) KIZER, Sebring, Fla., and two brothers, Lawrance LUDWIG, Dunnellon, Fla., and John LUDWIG, Winamac. Two sisters and six brothers preceded in death.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Foster & Good funeral home with the Rev. Chris MADISON officiating.

Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday ntil time of service.
