Proposed Relocation Of State Road 10 - 1959

Suggested Relocation of Indiana State Highway Routes 10 and 117 In the Culver Area

The above map shows suggested relocation of Indiana State Highway Routes 10 and 117 In the Culver area

The Culver Citizen prints the map, which was drawn by the State Highway Department bluprints, as a public service to inform the communiyt on these proposed relocations.

The mp shows only the proposed chages of ROutes 10 and 11y in the CUlver area. The entire section of ROute 10 to be relocated runs westward from about two miles east of the Culver Military airport for approcimately seven miles to near the Marshall -STarke county boundary line

It is undestood that the entire project planned by the State Highway Department eventually will bring a modern, straight road from Aprgos to Bass Lake.

The proposed chages for ROut 117 include connecting the present road to the nes Route 10 and straightening a bend directly to the south of present Route 10. That portion of present 17 between present 10 and the Three SIsters would also be improved.

A number of CUlver residents have expressed concern that the Hibbard Road, as well as other roads and streets would not have an acess from the proposed Route 10. There is no justification for this concern, as the map shows, because access will be maintained at all intersections except the north end of School Street where it teminates at the new 10.

A delegation of Culver Citizens plans to go to Indianapolis in the near future to confer with State Highway Department officials about the proposed road changes. Those who would like to joing the group should contact Deane E WAlker at the State Exchange Bank. - March 11 1959

1959 - MAr 18 - Added STaement of Relocation of State Road 10
Will Extend From Bass Lake to Argos

The large map in the Culver Citizen of March 11 showed that the new State ROad 10 was to commence at the Starke County line and go straight East and swerve to the right to come out neat the airport on old State ROad 10.

This is the plan for the relocationg of the first section of State ROad 10, but the final plans of the engineers for the state Highway COmmission show there will be a second section of the road to be built

The second section is to commence where the first section terminated near the airport and from there the second section is to continue East past the Poplar Grove Church to U. S. Highway 31 a short distance South of the town of Argos, keeping on the South side of the Nickel Plate Railroad at all times.

It is the plan of the State HIghway commission to first build the section of the road shown in the CUlver Citizen and then to continue straight East to a point SOuth of Argos on U.S. 42 at a later date when the funds are available for this additional construction.

This statement is made so that no one will be confused by thinking that the portion of State Road 10 shown in last week's Citizen is the only section of State Road 10 to be changed.

The engineers for the state Highway Commisson have recommended for many years that State Road 10 run as near East as possible from Bass Lake to come out just South of Argos on U. S. HIghway 31 and it is with this in mind that the present place for State Road 10 have been prepared.

The Culver Citizen, has in preparation for early publication a larger map which will show the entire route of State Road 10 from Bass Lake all the way to Argos.
