Wesley Wade Killed Shot In Chicago
Charles Wesley Wade, Jr., age 39, Chiccago mail carrier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Wade of Culver, died Sunday in a Chicago hospital as a result of a woumd recieved the night before when he was shot by an unidentified man.

Mr. Wade who was employed extra time in a Chicago tavern was shot by the stranger in the tavern, who first fired a shot at a soldier on furlough, killing him instantly, and then shot Wade. Another employee of the tavern secured a gun and shot and killed the assassin as he was attempting to leave the scene. No cause for the shooting has been found, except that at the inquest it was revealed that the man was a maniac. It was reported.

Wesley was born in Culver and was graduated from the local high school in 1923 after starring for three years in athletics.

He was outstanding as a basketball guard, and his giant b uild and fine coordination made him a famed figure in this area. It was not uncommon to see Wesley stretch up and tip a ball out of the basket, which was allowed in those days, thus ruining many a sure goal by opponents. There was no question about Culver getting the tip when he was jumping for the ball, whil his unusual strength allowed him to make baskets from far out on the floor.

Wesley was equally famed for his outstanding sportsmanship and as a result he was respected and honored by both players and a like.

In track Wade participated in the state meet and in the shot put made a prodoigious heave for a record that would never have been equalled, but a judge didn't allow tht effort, thoughj spectators claimed the jduge was obviously wrong.

He also played independent basketball with success until he moved to Chicago in 1926. He mad made his home there ever since.

Surviving are the widow, Elizabeth; two children: Florence ad Charles Wesley III, both at home; the parents and two sisters: Mrs. Leoma Carter of Chicago and Mrs. Dorothy Dickerson of Indianapolis.
