Long Illness Takes Mrs. Jessie Murphey, Funeral Here Tuesday

Mrs. Jessie F. Murphey, 83, of 1212 Sixth avenue south, died Saturday afternoon at the home of her son-in-law and, daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kryn Bloom, following a year's illness.

Mrs. Murphey was born in Columbus, Ohio, on March 15. 1864. At an early age, she moved with her parents to Logansport, Indiana, where her ancestors were early settlers.

On February 1, 1883. she was married to Francis C. Murphey, in Logansport, in which city, she resided until after the death of her husband.

She came to Escanaba to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Winifred Craig, fourteen years ago.

During her younger years, Mrs. Murphey was prominently associated with civic, fraternal and philanthropic activities in her home city. She was a member of St. Patrick's parish of Escanaba.

Surviving are three daughters. Mrs. John P. Simons, of Chicago, and Mrs. Craig and Mrs. Bloom, of Escanaba; four grandchildren, Robert Craig, of Ann Arbor: Richard Craig, Chicago; Mrs. James Brown, Chicago; and John F. Simons, Mexico City, Mexico: two great grandchildren; and one sister, The Mrs. Jewel Beal Chicago.

The body is in state at the Allo Funeral Home.

Services will be held Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock at St. Patrick's church and burial will be made in Logansport. Indiana. Escanaba Daily Press (Michigan) Feb 09, 1948
