Culver Citizen
MANY CHANGES MADE
Public Stenographer and Philadelphia lawyer Needed to Keep Track of Many Transfers
Have you ever played the game. "The Fruit Basket Upset"?
If you have you know the fun Culver business firms were having during the past week. They have been
playing the game in a business way and as a result, things will be all changed around in a short
time. It would have taken a public stenographer and a Philadelphia lawyer busy taking down notes of
the various changes and making sales contracts.
In the first place, Medbourn and McLane, grocery and meat merchants sold their store.
The buyers are A. W. Zechiel for the grocery department and Chas. Alexander for the meat department.
Mr. Zechiel has been a farmer while Mr. Alexander has been in the employ of the Ewald market for some
time. Both men are well and favorably known in the community and it is predicted that they will have
much business.
Chaa. Medbourn and Wm. McLane have not decided what they will do. Mr. Medbourn says it will be time
enough to decide after he has turned over the business to the new proprietors on February 2nd. McLane
is not sure what he will do but he intimates that he may return to California where he was located before
ie came to Culver.
Walter Johnson is the next mover, He has purchased the
American Legion room and will move his stock of
goods to that room after the first of February. He plans to make no changes in the building except for
putting a large window in the south side of the building and making some minor interior changes.
The State Exchange Bank has rented the room to be vacated by Johnson. The bank will construct a new building
on its present site during the spring and summer months
and it must have a place as temporary quarters during the building program. This change will not be made until
the new building is begun.
The most complicated transfer of the whole "Fruit Basket" is the one in which Eaton's Grocery, and Koontz's
Grocery are featuring.
These two firms will occupy one chair, as it were. The deal has not been completed, however, and The Citizen is
able to print but mere rumor. Eaton has admitted the deal, however. Here Is the complication. E. W. Koontz has
bought the stock in Eaton's Grocery. Then, Howard and Raymond Mikesell have taken the two stocks from the hands
of Koontz. It is understood that the Mikesell's will move Koontz's stock to the Eaton corner and operate in that
position. The Eaton's have not decided what they will do.
Mrs. Eaton is quite seriously ill at the present time and plans will not be made until her recovery. Mr. Koontz
has not said what he will do but it is quite probable that he will go on the road for the Safe Cabinet Company as
he has been actively connected with that firm for some time. The Mikesell's are well known here since they have
been here the greater part of their lives.
Howard has had grocery store experience as he operated the A. & P. store for several months. Raymond has been in
the insurance game for some time but ran the confectionery near the depot last summer.
Saunders Restaurant is the other player of the jumping game.
A deal was completed some time ago, but which was not made public until yesterday by the purchasers, in which Jesse
Crabb and Paul Snyder become the owners of the restaurant on April 1st. It is predicted by townspeople that the new
owners will continue to operate as good a restaurant as did the Sanders. The Sanders will probably move to their
farm west of Culver.
This constitutes the proceedings of the game as played so far. It is rumored that the game is not over hut nothing
authentic has been given out.
