CHS Band and Shop Building



1949 - Jul. 6 - Notice to bidders for 'sealed bids or proposals" for a Band and Shop building for the Union School township is announced in this issue of the citizen. An appropriation for the building was approved sometime ago. The structure will relieve the overcrowded conditions at the school. Alves D. O'Keefe of Plymouth has been retained as architect.o

    Notice to Bidders

    Sealed bids or proposals for "A Band abd Shop Building for Union School Township, Culverr, Indiana,: will be received at the Office of Township Trustee in Bank Bldg. until 7 o'clock p.m. Central Standard time, on the 19th day of July 1949 at which time and place all bids will be pblicly opened and read aloud. And bid received after the designated tim will be returned unopened.

    Seperate bids will be received as follows: 1. Foundations and floors 2. Buillding Superstructure 3. Interior Partiitions and Finish 4. Plumbing 5. Heating 6. Electric Wiring

    Copies of detailed instructions to bidders and plans and specifications may be obtained from the Trustee, Culver, Indiana, or from the Architect:

1949 - Jul 27 - Start Construction of School Shop and Band Building
    Construction work on a new 40 X 30 school structure was started here Monday morning.

    The building which will be temporarily used for the band until the new building program is completed, is designined for agricultural and industrial shop classes

    The present band room in the basement of the grade school builfing will be utilized to house an additional grade room. Increased first grade enrollment has caused officials to provide for an extra room, Maurice Curtis, Uniont township trustee, has stated

    Puterbaugh and McKee of Rochester , successful bidders on the cement and the painting contracts have indicated that the footings for the new building would be completed by the end of this week

    It is expected that the building will be completed by August 29.

    Other successful bidders on the building include Louis Kline of Rochester, electrical wiring; Kermit Sage of Leiters ford, plumbing and heating; and James I. Barnes Construction Company of Culver, partitioning. Alves O'Keefe of Plymouth is the architect for the new building.


1949 - Sep 28 - New Band Quarters Approach completion
    Progress on the new music building has been quite rapid during the past two weeks and the band should be getting into ne quarters within the next two or three weeks
    ,br> Partitions have been placed during the past week, providing practice rooms for individuals and small groups, as well as office and storage space and rest-room facilities.

    With these spaces established there remains a large room in the north half of the building for band and orchestra rehearsals.


1949 - Oct 19 - New School Buildings To be finsihed Today
    Maurice Curtis trustee of Union township said yesterday that barring unforseen circumstances the new building erected for the Agricultural shop classes, but which will be temporarily be used by the band, will be placed in operation tomorrow.

    All construction will be practically finished today.

    Located north of the gymnasium the steel structure will be a welcome addition since added facilities are badly needed to relieve overcrowded conditions.

    The new building will occupy the new building until the new grade building is erected. Construction of project was started a few weeks before the opening term.
