With the closing of schools here last week it is timely to have with us today the head of the local grade and high schools

Floyd Annis was graduated from Indiana University and received his M.A. degree from the same Institution.

He began his terachin creer in the rural schools of St. Joseph county and four years later began a similar term in an elementary school in South Bend. For four years he was a teacher, then principal and later suprintendent in the Argos school system. He resigined the last named office to become Marshall county superintendent of schools for your years, and then served for seven years as principal of the Plymouth High School.

In 1929 he took over his presnt duties and since that time has developed the local schools into what is recongnizd as one the the finest systems in the state. His ability as an organizer and administrator, and his adpatation of the best in progressine education are readily recongnized by anyone visiting the schools.

Mr. Annis was twice vice president of the North Central Teachers Association.

He has been active in community affairs, having served as president and scretary of the Chamber of Commerce and as Worshipful MAster of the Masonic lodge.

Floyd Annis, 73, Former Culver Teacher, Dies FLoyd M. Annis, 73, 815 Pennsylvania Ave., Plymouth, former superintendent of Marshall county schools died at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Parkview Hospital.

Born Sept. 28, 1888 at Lakeville to WIlliam N. and Mary Ann FItes Annis, he was married on August 19, 1914 to Lyda Ethel Stayer at Argos.

He had lived in Plymouth for the past two years moving there from Culver where he had resided from 1929 to 1960.

Mr. Annis served as principla of Plymoth High School foe seven year and for 25 years of the Culver High School.

He was a member of the Culver Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite of South Bend. He was also past patron of the EMily Jane Culver Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

He had devoted his lifetime to education and served as president of the Northern Indiana Teachers Association.

Surviving with the widow are two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Smith of Toledo, Ohio and Mrs. Phyllis Wells of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild and one brother Clement E. of Indianapolis.

Services were held in the Johnson Funeral Home, with Paul Swearingen reading the Christain Science service.

Internment was in the Masonic Cemetery at Culver, with Culver Masonic Lodge having grave side services. - - Citizen Jul 1 1962
