Kenneth L. Cole Appointed New School Principal -
Kenneth : Cole, of WIlliamsport, Ind. has been mamed aa the new princcipal of the CUlver-Union
Township Schools, accordingt ot Trustee EUgene G. Benedict and this advisary board,
consisting of Rlph A.Osbon Jr., Wayne Kline and Maurcie Nelson
In order to accept his new Culver post, Mr. Cole has resigned as principal of the
Williamsport-Washington Township Joint High Schoo, a position he has filled successfully for the
past eight years.
FIne Educuational Background
Mr.COle, 40 years of agem holds the degree of Bachelor of Science in Educaation frm Ball State
Teacher COllege at Munice and a Master of Science in Education degree from Indiana State
Teachers College at Terre Haute. He is currently attending Prudue University where he is
completing the requirements for a superintendet's certificate.
FOllowing active duty with the Nanvy in the Pacificarea aboard a high speed mine sweeper during
World War II, Mr. Cols since had coached both football andbasketball and taught English, health and saftey,
phisical education and psyvholohy.
The Coles and thei children Sue Eloise and Stephen Leroy hope to establish resident in Culver
earl in August.
He served trough to the end of the 1965-1966 school term.

Williamsport - Kennetb L, Cole, former teacher, principal and coach at Williamsport High School
died unexpectedly Sunday afternooon in Canada
Mr. Cole, a resident of Butler, had just arrives at White Lake Orovincial Park Campgrounds
when he suffered a heart attack. He ws dead on arrival at 2 p.m. at WIlson Memorial Hospital,
Marathon, Ontario,Canada.
Born in Parke county, he was a 1938 graduate of Attica High School and a 1942 graduate of
Ball State Teachers College. He also received degrees from Indiana State and Prudue universiities.
He was a member of WIlliamsport High School from 1952 to 1960. After leaving here he was
principal at Culver High School for several years before moving to Butler.
He was currently employed as superintendent of schools of DeKalb county Eastern
COmmunity School DIstrict.
Mr. Cole was a member of Butler United Methodist Church, F & AM Lodge 38 at Williamsport,
Rotary Internationa, Butler club and Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity aat Terre Haute.
He was a Naval offier in World War II.
In 1942 he was marrie dat Pendleton to Alice Marie Smith whosurvives.
Also surviving are a son, Dr. Stephen COle of Butler; one daughter Mrs. Sue Otterness of East
Moline, Ill; and three brothers, Manson Cole of Lafayette, Maurice "Pete" Cole of Chicago Heights,

Alice Marie (Smith) Cole, 72, Butler, died at the Meadow Heaven Nursing Home, Butler, at 8:30 p.m.
August 20, 1991.
She was born at Madison County, May 11, 1919, the daughter of Oliver and Vona Purdue Smith.
She was married in 1942 in Pendleton to Kenneth L. Cole, who was principal and coach at Williamsport
High School from 1952 to 1960. He preceded in death in 1978.
She had lived in Butler the past several years. She was a retired DeKalp County Eastern Community
Schools nurse.
She was a member of the Butler United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star and the Butler
Business and Professional Women's Club.
Surviving are: one son, Dr. Stephen Cole, a physician at Bulter; one daughter, Sue Staley, Moline,
Illinois; three brothers, James Smith, Florida, John Smith, Mechanicsburg, Paul Smith, Muncie; and
three grandchildren.
Memorial funeral services were held at Butler at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church,
the cremains were interred at graveside ceremony at the Highland Cemetery, Williamsport, at 2 p.m.
