Washington Street Tressel

1940 - oct. 6 - Nov A new bridge has been built by the Pennsylvania Railroad company over the viaduct on ast vvashington street

Back in the 1960's, 1970's and possibly early 1980's there was a banked sidewalk that curved down in front of the old kreuzberger Hotel (now Green's) off of E. State Street down to the remaining portion of it that is left in front of of the homes at 504 & 508 E. Washignton Street.

This property for years was the railroad, a cinder access road to Washington St. from Jefferson St. and also an access ran along the lake edge between the railroad tracks to the south it was main overgrown in brush till about late 1970's or early 1980's when it was abandoned until the railroad property was purchased for the Harbor project

There was also the access road that ran along the lakefront into the Culver Town Park that was maintained.

    Controversy At Davis Street
    By Jean Williams

... At the last Town Board meeting, Town Trustees were asked why they felt they had an interest in Washington Street but not in the Davis Street access. The answer is evident. Without the offer of an easement into the park at Washington Street, the entire town would be cut off from that entrance to the park. Without it, how would emergency vehicles get it?
The Washington Street easement ordinance is now under consideration as proposed by John Deery, owner of that access...
