Donald B. Hand CULVER - Donald B. Hand. 68; of 426 State St., died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in his home of an
apparent heart attack.
He was born on July 14, 1908, in Culver and was a lifetime resident.
On Oct. 25, 1935, in Culver he married Lois Bess Morris. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Terry O. of Valparaiso, and Donald E. of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Mrs. Jo Ellen
Walmoth of Walkerton, and Mrs. Christine Hatfield of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren; and a brother, Merwyn of
Johnstown, Pa.
He was a retired junior and senior high school teacher in the Culver and Plymouth schools.
He was a member of the Culver Grace United Church of Christ and of the Culver Community Schools Board of Trustees.
The body will be cremated and memorial services will be at a later date.
The Bonine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Culver Grace United Church of

Retired teacher dies last Thursday
Retired school teacher Lois Bess Hand, 77, 425 State Street, Culver , died at 3:40 a.m. last Thursday in Holl
Cross Parkview Hospital, Plymouth. Her death came following a sudden death illness.
Mrs. Hand was a life time Culver resident, and was a retired teacher who had taught in the Culver Community and
Aubbeenaubee Township school Systems.
She was born in Culver on March 22, 19113, the daughter of the late Arthur and Josephine Overman Morris.
On October 25, 1935 in Culver, she married Donald B. Hand. He preceeded her in death on June 15, 1977.
Surviving are tow daughters, JoEllen Hicks of Walkerton, and Christine Hatfield of Ft. Wayne. and two sons Terry
O. Hand of Valparaiso, and Donald E. Hand of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, and two sisters, Alda Dickinson of
Orlando, Flordia and Margaret Ellen Derch of Cleveland. She was preceded in death by a brother Clyde Morris.
Funeral Services were held last Saturday at Grace United Church of Christ with the Rev. Donald Wagner, pastor,
officiating. Bonine Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Terry O. Hand, 85 of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 8, 2022.
He was born June 29, 1937 in Plymouth, IN to Donald B. and Lois Bess (Morris) Hand.
A graduate of Culver High School, Terry obtained his master’s degree in education from Ball State University.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the NOA and taught Elementary Art for 31 years for the School
City of Hobart.
Terry was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso and enjoyed photography, model trains,
and gardening.
On August 24, 1963 in LaCrosse, IN, Terry married June Lichtwark who survives along with their son, Donald
(Heather) Hand of Morgan Twp.; grandchildren, Alexis (Martin) Aguayo, Donald Hand, Jr., Taryn Hand, and Carly
Hand; siblings, JoEllen Hicks of Walkerton, Donald E. Hand of Indianapolis, and Christine (Jim) Hatfield of Ft.
Wayne; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the First United
Methodist Church of Valparaiso, 103 N. Franklin St., Valparaiso, with a Memorial Service beginning at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the First United Methodist Church
of Valparaiso.

Lois Christine "Chris" (Hand) Hatfield, 79, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2023,
Chris worked for FWCS and also for Meijer's from where she retired.
She enjoyed bus trips that were offered by Land Cruise, going to Tincaps games, working out at Turnstone
and going out to eat. She was unassuming and very soft spoken.
Chris is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Michelle (Mike) Gerbasich of Kingwood, TX; sister, Jo
Ellen Hicks, of Walkerton, IN; brother, Don Hand, of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Katie and Bryce Gerbasich.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Parkview Home Hospice for their exceptional care.
