Formation of the Culver-Union Township Fire Department was effected at the joint meeting of
town and township officials at the town hall on Monday night.
Formal organization was necessary before any definite agreements could be reached and affords
a legal basis upon which to work
The new set-up for the joint department calls for a governing body, composed of the town board
complete, the fire chief, the township trustee, and the township advisory board.
The personnel includes A. R. McKesson, Dr .C. G. Mackey, Steffen Rector, and Earl Foreman of the
town board; Fire Chief Cary Cummins; Trustee D. H. Smith and Joseph Shoemaker, C. D. Behmer and
Ira J. Faulkner of the advisory board.
A control committee was also appointed, following the agreement reached last Monday night whereby
joint control in the management of the department was established. Named to places n this committee
were A. R. McKesson, president of the town board, Fire Chief Cummins and Trustee Smith
Represent State Fire Marshall
Two representatives from the State Fire Marshall's office attended the meeting in an advisory capacity.
Suggestions on the kind of truck to buy and how to equip it were of considerable value, officials are
facing the problem of furnishing complete fire protection to rural property, where the lack of water,
in the majority of cases presents an angle not found in protecting town or lake property
Also present was a representative of a fire equipment manufacturer, who explained the set-up which his
company could offer to meet the local situation. No formal action was taken
Next Monday night was set as the date for the continuation of the discussion.
By-laws of the new organization will be drawn up at that time
