Culver Has Real Fire Department - March 5, 1919


As replendent in its red paint and gol lettering as a cakewalk in Darktown, the new Obenchain-Boyer chemical fire truck roared into town Sunday afternoon from Logansport, driven by Charley Medbourn and accompanied by Cheif Saine, Clark Ferrier, Archie and Perchis Blanchard, Clifford Waite, J. P. Walter, and Phil McLane

The apparatus remained on exhibition at the bank corner Monday and was views with intrest and admiration by even the sophisticated stranger within our gates to whom fire trucks are a common sight

The machine is geared to 40 miles an hour and carries 400 feet of chemical hose and 1,000 feet of water hose. It is equipped with three chemical tanks

The fire company makes the following announcement: The fire zone in which the new truck will give service is also the boundary line for subscriptions, so far and is as follows:
    Beginning at C. D. Behmer's corner, thence north to Wm. Lake's residence, thence south to the cross road at Mrs. Della Overmyer's residence, thence south to the end of the road, thence east to the road leading to Zion church, thence south to the Reuben Kaley and John Newman farms, thence east to Jerome Zechiel's corner, thence south to the first raod east, thence east to Wm. Kantz's corner, thence following the lake road past Maxinkuckee Landing around the academy and west to C. D. Behmer's, the place of beginning.
This also includes the buildings on the oppostie of the boudary lines of the present fire zone.

For the benifit of people living outside the present fire zone in case of fire call for the fire department and it will respond and give you the best service possible with the equipment.

Subscription to the fund for the purchase of the truck are solicited from those who have not yet subscribed, and all those who have not paid should send their check this week if possible to the Exchange bank.

    Jos. Shearer shoud have been James Shearer and S. J. Lenon's subscription should of read $ instead of $10
