TRIBUTE FUND FOR FIREMAN'S FAMILY - Alfred B. Cromley

Culver Citizen July, 18, 1934 TRIBUTE FUND FOR FIREMAN'S FAMILY

Alfred B. Cromley has died in line of duty. As a volunteer fireman he gave of his time and service for the benefit of the citizens of this community. As fire chief he studied how he could best direct his company in saving local property owners from loss in case of fire, standing ready to leave his home and business for this volunteer service to others. Suddenly his family of three find themselves without a means of support and without a wage earner in the stricken group. Their economic future is anything but bright and mingled with the widow's grief is her deep concern for her family's care. At the suggestion of an East Side cottager The Culver Citizen is acting as the custodian of a fund to be raised by public contributions as an appreciation to the fatherless family. As Chief Cromley served as a volunteer fireman, so will these contributions be voluntary. No personal solicitations will be made, leaving the matter entirely up to each individual in the community served by the local fire department as to the amount he will subscribe. Contributions to this tribute fund may be sent or brought to The Citizen office and acknowledgement will be made in these columns. Although names will be omitted if so requested. This fund will be kept open for a limited time only and the total amount then presented to the stricken family. No amount is too small or too large to be sent to this tribute fund, and every person who appreciates the sacrifice made by Chief Cromley should so express himself to those who are the sufferers. While this fund is open to all, it might be mentioned that those living outside of the corporate limits of the town should make a special response as the firemen have set no limits to those they will serve when needed to protect life and property, a policy not followed by most fire companies. A check for $25 has opened the tribute fund to Chief Alfred Cromley. Send in your expression of appreciation at once.
