Santa Claus Leaves Baby on Porch of Cleve Crabb Home
Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Crabb will 1927 when Santa Claus came in the disguise of a stork and left them the most
unusual Christmas present in Culver - a little baby girl, which was left on the front porch of the Crabb
home early Sunday morning.
About five o'clock Christmas morning, Mr. Crabb was awakened by the incessant ringing of the doorbell and
answered it, thinking some neighbor was playing a joke by leaving some present at an early hour.
Even when the basket was found on the porch he still believed it a prank of some friend until he lifted up
the coverings and found a little baby girl asleep.
The baby was wrapped warmly in blankets and had not suffered any from the brief exposure on the porch.
Its age was estimated at about four or five days. Investigation found indelible markers on one of the infant's
arms, which indicate that she was born in a hospital.
The unexpected arrival is of fair complexion and weighed exactly six pounds. Mr. and Mrs. Crabb have lived in
Culver for the past 19 years and have no children of their own.
The little girl found a warm welcome and plans are being made to take out adoption papers.
They have named her Carol Lee, in keeping with the day on which she arrived at their home.
There was no word left with the infant, and where she came from will probably always remain a mystery.
But this is of little concern to Mr. and Mrs. Crabb who are happy busily planning the little girl's future. =
