1941-1945 - Verl McFeely The Town Board named VerI "Mac" McFeely the next town marshal in March 1941. Previously he had been superintendent of streets, water and sewer, all at the same time. In his new position, he was told to take care of the problem of cars speeding in town. The Town Board instructed him saying, "We will back your every move in controlling the speed on Lakeshore Drive and Main Street. The state law governs driving on the other streets, including College Avenue, which had long been a speedway." He was also to enforce the law in regard to driving to a fire. Cars were to stay 500 feet behind the fire engine and no one was to pass the fire truck. 1946 - JANUARY 2 - Chief of Police Verl McFeely turned in his resignation at the Town Board meeting Monday evening. He also resigned from his duties as superintendent of the water works. He is replaced by Don Miksell

In his role as Water Superintendent, in 1952, Verl oversaw the fluoridation of Culver's water supply

Culver Citizen – Wed 25 Feb 1953 p. 1) "Said to be one of the most modern sewage disposal units for a community the size of Culver the plant went into operation early this month. Verl McFeely has been designated by the town board as supervisor of the plant and will devote time to its operation and care of machinery.

In the early 1960's, Verl was also back operating as the Town Deputy.

The Culver Citizen – Wed 18 Sep 1963 p. 1) "Verl McFeely, water works superintendent of the Culver Water Department, has been informed that he will receive the John N. Hurty Service Award. The award is being made as an honor for the 25 years of service Mr. McFeely has given the water department. The award will be made at the district meeting on Sept. 26 at the South Bend Elks Club."

1975, Dec 10 - Thanks, "Mac" = Berl D. "Mac" McFeely, looks at a plaque prented to him by the Culver Town Board following the Dec. 1 meeting. McFeely, retiring after 37 years of service is the first town employee ever to retire. McFeely has served in the capacitied of r Superintendent of Culver Streets and Culver Street Maintenance Department. He has also served with ehte CUlver Water Utilitu Department. Culver Sewage Trunkline Department and recently retired from 25 year of service with the Culver Volunteer Fire Department. McFeely was a guest of honor at a surprise party held at the State Exchange Lounge. In presenting the plaque Don Meuhlhausen said "Tis is a token of apprceciaiton to you, Mac, from all who have served with you and from a town you have served so well. We thenk you."

Verl D. McFeely

CULVER - Verl D. McFeely, 77, of 215 Lakeview St., died unexpectedly at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday in Marshall County Parkview Hospital, Plymouth.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1904, in Culver and was a lifetime area resident.

He retired as the superintendent of the Culver Street Department in 1975.

On June 4, 1935, in Bourbon, he married the former Wilma Gene Menser. She survives with a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Judy) Cultice of Culver, and three grandchildren.

Three brothers preceded him in death.

Services wil be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Bonine Funeral Home. Rev. Thomas French, pastor of the Culver Grace United Church of Christ, will officiate.

Burial will be in Culver Masonic Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Culver-Union Twp. Emergency Medical Service.

R Rev. Walter Vonderoag {sic Vonderhoe}, pastor of Culver Grace United Church of Christ of which she was a member, was to officiate with burial in Culver Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Marshall County Cancer Association. She was born on Jan. 9, 1916, in Culver, and was a lifelong area resident. On June 1935, Bourbon, she married Verl D. McFeely, who died on June 22, 1982. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Judy) Cultice of Culver: three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Benjamin (Doris) Rogers of Culver; and a brother, Donald Menser of Fort Myers, Fla.
