Glenn Irving Whitmarsh

Glenn I. Whitmarsh May 5, 1941 – May 10, 2014

Glenn Irving Whitmarsh, 73, of Culver passed away on May 10, 2014.

Glenn was born in Whitney Point, NY, on May 5, 1941 to the late Ezra and Reva Mae Whitmarsh. He is the youngest of five children and is survived by his sisters, Evelyn Mitchell, Bernice Lantz and Edna Vandeburg. His brother Myron preceded him in death.

Glenn graduated from Whitney Point High School in 1960. As a Golden Eagle he participated in basketball, football and track.

In 1962, Glenn moved to Plymouth, Indiana to work for WaterCare and would eventually become the manager. After nearly 45 years of dedicated service, Glenn retired from WaterCare in 2006.

Glenn is survived by his son Bryan Whitmarsh, who's mother is Nancy Crager (Douglass). Bryan is currently living in Boise, Idaho with his wife Connie and their two children Abigail Rose and Carysn Glenn.

In 1975, Glenn would fall in love and marry Christine Croy. Their marriage would last until her passing in October of 2006. Chris or “Red” as he affectionately called her, had a daughter, Robin Keyser, from a previous marriage. Robin currently resides in Plymouth with her husband Mark. Robin gave Glenn and Chris four grandchildren, Tyler, Trey, Trent and Korrine and three great-grandchildren, Hayden, Noah and Owen.

He was a lover of his canine best friends Buckwheat and Chief. In addition, Glenn is remembered as a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

Beyond being a committed family man, Glenn was very involved in the community. His most cherished association was being a member of the volunteer fire department. His volunteer fire service began in Plymouth during the early 1960’s. In 1976, Glenn became a member of the Culver fire department. Glenn would remain an active member of the department for 37 years and during that time he would hold the rank of Captain for 24 years. This past January, Glenn received his 50 year pin for his loyal service as a volunteer fireman.

In addition to his fire duties, Glenn also served as an EMT, emergency medical technician for over 9 years.

Outside of his role as a civil servant, Glenn and Christine had been extremely active members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Glenn also took great pride being a member of the Culver VFW Men’s Auxiliary, serving as Treasurer.

Beyond Glenn’s community involvement, he enjoyed his weekly card games, jokes shared with his lawn mowing buddies and going out to dinner with his companion Marlene Harrison.

A time of visitation will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and at Wesley United Methodist Church on Friday, May 16, 2014 from noon – 2:00 PM. Rev Jacob Juncker will officiate services at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the church. Burial will follow at the Culver Masonic Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Culver-Union Township Fire Dept. or Finney-Shilling VFW Post 6919 Men’s Auxiliary.
